I have seen a 73 road runner with 285x70x15 tyres, these are 30"1/2 across & 11 1/2 wide.Does anyone know if they will fit the 68 charger.I was led to believe the charger has the biggest wheel wells of them all. Thanks Adam.

Seems like it should work as there are guys running 295/50/15 series tires on 68-70 Chargers. But the fact that its a 70 series it will bulge out more than the 50 series. What is the overall section width of the tire?

Animal

Hello blackcharger, what do you mean by section width. All I know is the tyre is 30.5 across & 11.5 wide. These are on 15"magnum wheels.Hope this helps, thanks Adam.

ok the 70 means 70% of the big number(285 in this case)  that means the sidewall height of the tires you are talking about is 70% of 285 which is 199.5 mm.
you can run in to trouble with a tire that tall.

I stuffed 295/50/15's in the rear which means the sidewall is 50% of the width of my tire... 295X50% =147.5 mm sidewall.  big difference.  i'm afraid you would get some rub(against the inner wells cause of going over bumps and stuff) with a 70 in there.

Now on my fronts I went 235/60's which is 235X60%= 141mm tall
if you went 245/60's it would be 147 tall
if you went 70's it would be 164.5 tall on a 235
and 245's would be 171.5 tall
you see the pattern developing here

If you are going to stuff fatties in the back I would worry about sidewall height (70) iin this case)  I say it's too tall and would rub.  If you went with a 50 series tire you should be ok.  Like i said I got 295/50's on the rear and I get a little rub on the inner of the tire from the leafs(i think) no rub on the inner quarters as far as I can tell.  285 50's would be a good choice if they make em.

Have i confused the crap out of you??
Sorry

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

mikepmcs

oh forgot to ask what size rim 15 x what?????
i have 15x8.5's in the rear
i don't know that you could get a tire that fat on much less than that. someone will correct me if i'm wrong

check this thread out and there is lots of pics including mine

Got the tyres & they fit like a glove.I really didn't think they would fit. They fill up the complete arch with no rubbing issues & the back sits up 2" :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:.Thanks Adam.

Sorry,the wheel is 15x8.Thanks Adam.

i really thought those 70's would rub on the inside of the quarter.  glad it worked for you.
