Brake Lights do Not Work

Good Evening Charger Gurus,

New issue with the old girl has cropped up recently. We were out on a club cruise and a passerby informed me that my brake lights were out. Turn signals and running lights function great. However, when starting to check things out, the hazards do not work as well. When I turn the 4 way flasher switch on, I get a very (20% or so) dull glow from the hood turn signal lights and that is all. A little history, within the past year, I have had the turn signal switch replaced with an OER one, the flashers were both replace with no-load units as I in process of upgrading to all LED exterior lights, and I had teh interior dimmer switch bypassed so that I coals actually have dash lights at night. went through 3 repop switches in that year. I have been told to look at 3 items. First is the turn signal switch, second would be the lasers,a nd third is the brake light switch. Just look for a little push in the right direction before zi break my back getting under the dash. Your help is always appreciated regarding all things Charger. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

B5blue my friend... I can't recall any part of the lights system requiring a ground for working but just the lights housings itself

Now, about the problem. I have to refresh how 68/69 is wired being a divorced hazzard switch, since on these you can have brakes while hazzards are on (not since 70 where brakes are cut with hazzards) BUT, if hood lights are working, fronts should be too.

Pretty sure brakes light is spliced onto the hazzard switch plug then spreaded out to rear throught the turning switch hence why brake light can be activated still with hazzards on.

Will check diagram and will post my opinion about where to search. But as far I recall is one wire coming from flasher (probably pink), two wires to each side of fronts, (probably tan and light green), and couple of wires coming from brake pedal switch and going to TS ( mostly sure white wire).

In any case, everything points out to the TS. Is not linking the rear lights, dark green and brown,  to the white wire (hazzards/brakes) while in rest position.

On a side note, dimming issue should be ground related (at housings)

Well, as I recall, I was correct. Both brake and hazzards white wires are linked and will feed/splice rears into the TS. The flasher input on a Red wire (not pink) and fronts are light green and tan wires.

If you jump out white wire with dark green and brown at TS plug you should get hazzards on rear and brakes. If you do, then the TS is the culprit.

Good Afternoon Nacho-RT,

I greatly appreciate your guidance. I have already ordered another repop turn signal switch. Hopefully this one will last a bit longer. I hope everyone has a great day.

Maybe you could fix it just replacing the cancelling cam which is the piece getting both input sources and splice it to the blinking system as far I recall with spring loaded contacts and riveted contacts... or you could try it at least
