I was wondering who has a 69 Charger that was built in August 1968?
When did production start for the 1969 Charger?   Was it Thursday Aug 1st 1968?

My last 69 Charger was Aug 9 on the fender tag

first week for the 69 charger started  first of August 1968 , although i'm sure i did have saved pictures of 2 preproduction  69 chargers with  late july SPD , think i heard or read  one was a show car & had leaded over seams in the driver door jam , dont quote me on this though could easily be getting mixed up  :-\  :scratchchin:

i had hundreds & hundreds  of fender / vin tags & broadcast sheet pictures saved for 69 chargers , but lost the lot when my hard drive blew up years ago , started over but gave up was crazy idea givng how many i had lost  :-\  :brickwall:  i still have a few documented in the new file i started as follows

Hamtramck SPD  801 i have one        St. louis SPD  802 i have one
                802 i have one
                803 i have four

FWIW  a  Few of the early build 69s with  with low sequential numbers starting 10**** & 11**** , had the previously mystery firewall plug , that was still  mystery till (HemiGeno) discovered what it was or a good chance it was for  :yesnod:

My 69 383 car has a 8/28 build date. It has the chrome shifter knob and the black buttons on the door handles instead of chrome... I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but those seem to be common on early build 69's.
1969 Charger 383/auto
1969 Charger R/T 440/auto (waiting to be restored)
1972 Chevelle SS clone 383 sbc
1959 Chevy Apache short bed stepside
1968 Charger (glorified parts car)
Yes, I know I have too many cars. My wife reminds me daily.

black door handle buttons are correct for 68 build 69 chargers , mine has them SPD November 22 ,  but has the wood grain shift knob ,( previously unrestored was a 2 owner car when i bought it ) although mine is a SE also , just to confuse things seen a unrestored rotted out 69 R/TSE with a november SPD with a chrome shift knob ? :shruggy:  :o  :-\
FWIW i always assumed  :slap: ( never assume  :yesnod: ) all 68s got the chrome shift knob & all 69s got the woodgrain but thats not the case , not sure what the deal was you tend to see most if not all 69  XX29 chargers with the chrome shift knob too & few with wood grain but whos to know if previous owners changed them , the case might just be using up the 68 shift knobs , same deal as the chrome buttons think the change was supposed to be from january built 69s , but seen a few unrestored 69s with a january SPD with black buttons  :scratchchin:  :shruggy:  :popcrn:

Yeah it's odd. You would think after a certain date everything would be the same after that but I guess it also depends on which factory it came out of.

My 69 R/T is unrestored. It has the wood grain shift knob and chrome door handle buttons. It's a later build than my 383 car. The R/T has a 2/28 build date... which should be correct.

You should dig into the archive. There were a few cars from that time posted on here noting the subtle differences in the first batches. I recall there were one or two extra holes with body plugs on the firewall. And some 1968 carryover parts used up.

My "68 reportedly came from Hamtramck on July 5th of 1968. August 1st has always been rumored to be the changeover date.
