13 Year Old Tires

It doesn't seem that long ago, but I dug out the receipt it's been 13 years ago since I put the current set of tires on my car.  Most info I've found says that 10 years is the max even if the tires have plenty of tread.  The car only comes out in good weather for cruising so the tires probably only have a few thousand miles on them.  I have 245/45/17 in the front and 275/40/18 in the rear.  I like the look, but I'm considering a slightly taller profile for a smoother ride.  13 year old tires gotta go?  Thoughts on taller profile?

Do you have a spare that works on all 4 corners?  :scratchchin:

13 yo tires for general cruising....maybe. Hard performance driving....not a chance.

You are an inch taller in the rear on tire height. I would leave the rear around and consider going a little taller in the front.
I would raise the torsion bars in the front and see if that improves the ride first.

Going to 235/50r17 in the front will give you more sidewall and about 3/4 taller ride height.A 245/50r17 would be a full inch higher and match the rear tire diameter.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I would say "No".  I have the original spare that has a tire on it from JC Penney.  That tells you how old it is.

The picture is a little old.  I just recently had the torsion bars raised in the front about 1".

I would not risk my car for the cost of 4 tires and I never ride without jack/lug wrench/spare. (Tire pressure gauge, air pump and battery booster also.)
