Most screen-used stunt cars aren't very streetable.  That's normal.

The most important thing to preserve on a film car is the screen-used appearance.  That's what it's famous for.

The backstory on the body mods is that the car supplier had pitched the studio on using a regular '69 Daytona.  But the studio bosses thought it looked too cartoonish.  The car in the movie was a compromise where they shortened the nose & wing to make it look better.  The headlight doors were also ditched for reliability reasons.

The body mods are not my preference.  But at least it still looks like a '69 Daytona.  IMO they did a decent job considering what the job was.

I have to say that too many idiots take pictures wrong.
The default vertical format of cell phones makes for pictures of cars that look terrible.
Sure, if you're taking pictures of a rocket launch or a skyscraper, the vertical format is fine but cars are long and horizontal. Turn the camera on it's side and get the picture right.
I know the reason that many people do it...BS social media sites are in the vertical format. I'd send Steve Jobs hate mail if the assclown was still above ground. EVERY TV screen, Movie screen and computer is in horizontal widescreen format. Every video camera, still photo camera and disposable cameras from the past default to a horizontal format so why did the idiots designing cameras for phones choose the vertical aspect? It looks horrible. Every vertical video and photo looks like you are watching the image through a partially closed doorway. It sucks.
This issue alone adds to my lack of respect of my fellow man. Lazy idiots that are too stupid to know better whip out their phones to take pictures and look like toothless, ignorant dipshits when they do it wrong.

I personally like the look if it (liked it in the movie also). Even the smoothing of the nose and tail i like the look of as well. It kinda feels like this is what the car would have been like, if the original mods weren't done as fast/cheap as they could be back in the nascar days.

However, i don't quite agree with the 360 swap into it. they said it had an LS in it while it was a movie car, so to me, if buying strictly as movie memorabilia, it would make more sense to leave the LS in it "as seen on TV", rather than to put a mopar engine in it that also would not have been in a wing car...

still, would be neat to see something like that in the real world.

Mike DC

I'm speculating, but the 360 motor might be in there because the screen-used engine didn't come with the car.

The shop (that builds the stunt cars for the studio) has a bunch of LS3 crate motors.  They have been switching them from one stunt car to another for years.  They may have sold the car as a rolling body or maybe with a cheap SBC motor in it.

If you buy a used stock car chassis from a race team, you probably won't get a good race motor in it by default.  They will probably want to keep their race motor unless you make a point of asking & paying extra for it.

ah thats an interesting take, i had never considered that the builder pulled the block before sale, the way they worded it "we dumped the LS and now powered by a 360" but that could have been to save face about not having the engine.

  well that explains it  :yesnod: ,
here was me thinking the vertical picture deal was because , all these modern phones are geared to the idiot generation ( disclaimer saying that they are much much cleverer than me with computer & phone social media stuff so who is the idiot now  :'( )  that cant stop keep taking pictures of them selves walking down the street , what meal they are just about to eat ,  taking selfies & everything else in between ...
while on the subject of vertical pictures , whats with these vertical videos with screen split into three , middle bit in focas although only a small strip & either side is rest of the video out of focas ....  is this generation part robot  :shruggy:  :-\  :scratchchin: seems crazy to me , or maybe im the crazy one  & its considered normal today  :shruggy:

I can accept a vertical image if the subject is taller than it is wide but in most cases, it isn't.
I see dorks taking pictures of cars and they look like this:

All they had to do was to turn the phone sideways to get it all in one shot....

IMO a 360 is actually a good motor for what the car is.  It's the kind of motor that stunt crews liked before the LS era.

Remember that "Viper" TV show in the 1990s?  Several of those modded Vipers used 360 crate motors and torqueflites.  The crew wanted auto trannys more than they wanted V10 power.

Yup and up or sideways pics of cars and car shows are just fine by me.
