Took a little road trip to Randleman, North Carolina today to the Petty Museaum. Had my son and two other 20-something young men with me (all are certifiable car nuts) that desperately needed a change of sceenery. Long drive down there (2-plus hours each way) and we only had an hour upon arrival before the business closed. The car that we really wanted to see wasn't even there (the Petty Blue Superbird is in England at the moment) but the lady that checked us in mentioned that "Richard's working in the back" and low & behold....he was.  "The King" is evidently 86 now and he speaks very softly but we had a nice chat. We all told him how much we enjoyed his lovely museaum, bought some trinkets, and then piled into into the rental minivan and headed back to the family reunion.

WOW!

That's awesome.  One for the ages.  Racing fans are still gonna be talking about him generations from now.

I do have some photography but I can't get them onto my laptop easily anymore.  Let me see what I can do (back at home now)

Towards the back of the complex there, Mr. Petty was sitting at a table covered in helmet visors (there were several tables of them) signing them with a sharpie. He had on his signature hat and sunglasses and he spoke very softly in response to our greetings and small talk (to soft for me to really hear him well).

Always wanted to meet him. I hear he's a pretty nice guy. Was digging through some old boxes of mine and came across these the other day.
