Question about changing leaf springs....

It's been since the 90s that I changed a set on my first Charger. To keep from killing myself please remind me if I am correct. Seems I had the car up on jackstands so the rear hung down. Then I think I raised the axle an inch or so to put 2 more jackstands under the axle to support it before unbolting the old springs? Does this seem correct? Thanks! TC

I've changed springs one at a time with a floor jack under the axle to keep it in place.
Your way would work just as well.

:iagree: Since the replacement spring probably won't have the same arch, a jack under the housing on the side you're replacing allows you to position the housing up/down to match the spring's position.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Hey, Would anyone know the amount of rear leafs for a normal 68 big block charger . Pic of what's in it at this stage. I've also got another 2 sets, one performance 2 leaf. The other from im not sure. Thanks .

Clean the u-bolts before unbolting them.  Use a fine steel brush, and wash with solvent.  Any dirt or rust will jam those nuts up real tight.

318/383 Chargers had 4 leafs from the factory.

440/426 Chargers had the staggered "6 leaf" setup.  (Driver side has 5 full leafs + 1 half-leaf.  Passenger side has 5 full + 2 halfs.)

The 440/426 setup is good for drag racing but it's arguably a bit too stiff for cornering/handling.

IIRC the XV Motorsports leaf spring setup (which got a lot of research) was something like 5 full leafs, no half-leafs, and a rear sway bar.

It is a 383 model. It has 5 leafs, The bottom one is maybe 1/4 length.
