As cheap as that sounds today, it was a sizeable outlay back in 1970 !  Out of reach for a lot of people raising a family.

It was out of reach for me as I had just got out of the Marine Corps in 1970 and had a wife and baby girl to support.

Considering my parents paid 18k for their house in 1968 with a 100 dollar month owner carried mortgage that my Dad wasn't sure he could swing as a Teacher at Major College. Yeah 5k was a big nut to crack in 1970..
1970 Dodge Charger R/T.. Owned since 1981

$4572 in 1969 is about $32,750 in 2016 dollars. Anyone got one for sale I would be willing to pay you that full sticker price in today's dollars if in new condition!

Maybe a typo on the "R".....correct VIN: RM23V0A171573 (440+6 Superbird)?

the base price for a 1969 Charger R/T was $3,575.00 (440HP auto), Daytona $3,993.00 (+ $418.00)
the typical '69 Charger had an additional $1,000 worth of OPTIONs
********** average Daytona $4,993.00

the base price for a 1970 Road Runner was $3,034.00 (383HP 3-spd), Superbird (440HP auto) $4,298.00 (+ $1,264.00)
the typical '70 Road Runner hardtop had an additional $865 worth of OPTIONs
the engine/trans account for: $130.55 for the 440HP, $227.05 for the automatic & ~$265 for the steering/brakes/axle package (865 - 623 = $242.00)
********** average Superbird $4,540.00

ballpark!  :Twocents:

The 'R' and the 'A' are no where near each other in a typewriter keyboard.  Shows that that back in the early 70's car dealers did not know that the 7th letter of the VIN was the build plant...now everyone knows the A is lynch road.  G is St Louis. B is hamtramack. E is Los Angeles etc. There is no plant with an R that makes road runners

There has never been a RM23V0R built at the Windsor plant car.
They made satelittes there not road runners.  VIN would be RH23 not RM23

nothing more than curiosity, but does someone have the figures to price this daytona out?

440 auto, with a01, a36, b51, c16, c55, g15, and r11, plus magnums.  can't think of anything else that would be extra cost, but could be overlooking something

i've forever been thinking it was right at 4,300

I probably didn't put enough time into that & the $1,000 worth of OPTIONs is too high considering A/C ($357.65) was popular on a R/T but n/a on a Daytona

simple "typo"!

All Superbirds were "A" Lynch Rd. DETROIT, MI assembled
Windsor, 1970 built A & C bodies
any plant that built Satellites also built Road Runners

As they say, hindsight is 20/20. We all should have purchased a few elephant powered Mopars and kept them in a garage somewhere. I think of all the deals I passed over just 15 years ago that I thought were overpriced.
