Kissimmee Jan auction, my old Dayton 961

After a shocking look at the Sergent collection I realized that this was my Daytona for about 13 years before selling it a couple years back. Many discrepancies with Mecums posting. First off the wing was black for the last 20 or so years, it NEVER had power steering or disc brakes, and a build sheet miraculously shows up that no searching in its entire known history could be found. There is more but any thoughts.

Somebody paid extra for the extra undercoat, the J55 Option. no pics of the under carriage, did it get restored with the extra under coat? this option comes with the under hood Pad. would or does any wing car come with a Hood pad? Leon.

Sheet shows the car as being a CONSOLE automatic but fender tag shows Auto on column with buddy seat. Hmmmm.

Airmail440

Like I said a few more discrepancies that don't track with the cars KNOWN history back to Jim Walton in 79 and resto in Georgia by I think Steve Deloach when he got it out of a field or back area of one of the members. Buyer BEWARE

birdsandbees

Fender tags a repro, J55 would be hood pad just like my Superbird, Broadcast sheets been "produced" with an obvious error and aged. No way's that's an original...

Then there's the flocked up reproduction radiator and brake booster.

Airmail, thanks for bringing this to the community's attention.  The difference in options on that broadcast sheet are obvious. This kind of shenanigans is why I am so leery to purchase another Mopar unless it's got a solid history and documentation.
Not to mention auction houses playing it up and their less than credible bidding. I've seen one of my old cars , more than once, be 'sold' only to show up at the next auction...

Sgt Superbird

For educational purposes, why was it said that the broadcast sheet is  "no way original"? Too complete and in nice shape? The decent alignment of the numbers? Is the form itself an obvious reproduction?  Or is it because the options don't match the fender tag?  :shruggy:

I was offered an opportunity to purchase a reproduction broadcast sheet for my Hemi Daytona before I sold it that I could have tried to pass off as original. While it may have increased the value of my car I didn't feel right doing it not to mention that if it was ever found out it would raise questions as to the authenticity of everything else on the car.

Agreed :iagree:
if & or once you do something like that everything you have ever done in the past  & will ever do in the future will be called into question , will be suspect , honesty is always the best policy  :yesnod:

Mopar John

So my question is if Airmail440 sold it just a few years ago,
how many owners after that before it became part of the Sergent collection? :scratchchin:
Thanks! MJ

Airmail440

To the best of my knowledge,I sold it to a Mark Goodall in Kissimmee whose brother redid it in his garage and I went and saw it once while it was being done, he probably sold it to Kevin Sergent after putting the power steering and disc brakes on it which he told me he was doing. The photos I had of the major restoration of a totally rusty car by Steve Deloach in Georgia still showed the fender tag when purchased from Francis Burley in mid 90 but NO buildsheet in all those years of searching and ads etc.

Airmail440,
 Thanks for the reply!
Your response starts to paint a picture of where a lot of the changes from original took place!
