i agree with a lot , not all  of what UTG is saying
think secretly  all us older chargers guys knew & was thinking along the same lines as UTG with the charger !  at least i was although from when i was looking for a charger from late 80s, they were always priced more than E bodies A bodies road runners & coronets , even 318 / 383 cars with 440s installed ,  except hemi & sixpacks cars   , early 80s late 70s was too young to realise the pricing just knew what i wanted when i was old enough  :yesnod:

My car was a very deliberate decision. I'd owned or driven several Mopars (Roadrunners, SuperBees, Challengers, even a GTX) as a younger man, including a few other muscle variants (including Pontiacs, Chevys, & Fords) but after driving more modern stuff for many years (specifically a Japanese "sports" car for a while, an '86 300ZX Twin Turbo) I found myself wanting what I'd almost had, all those years ago. I'd been out of college, married, and working for over a decade when I began to really want a "toy" that would also be a decent investment (I'd been watching the prices creep ever-upward on the better versions for several years).

I could have chosen from the many Mopar options (it had to be a Chrysler product because that's what I really knew).  Up until 1996 (when I bought this one) and I had been considered them all for several years (including E-bodies) but, after much deliberation, I decided on the Charger. It had to be from 1968, an R/T, and it had to be a four speed (I loved the one in my '70 Bee).  Finding one wasn't easy but... perseverance pays (it also helps to have a few friends in the hobby).  It's a long story that I've told here before so I won't bore you with the rest.



It will be 28-years this Spring and it's been mostly fun. I'd of sold it for a decent profit several years ago, except now my almost 20-year old son still really wants it (so much for the good investment, eh?). He'll get it eventually.

Oh, Tony :rotz: He's lumping in all Chargers and comparing them to Road Runners and Super Bees in terms of perceived value.

Yes, 1975-1982 there were 2nd generation 318 and 383 Chargers everywhere for just a few hundred bucks (or less), but this was same for the comparable Coronets, Belvederes and Satellites. Charger R/T's held values comparable to Road Runners, GTXs, Super Bees, and Coronet R/Ts.... if not more.

In general, I do agree that the Cudas and Challengers seemed to be valued more during this period than a comparative Charger during those years. I was more than happy to "settle" for $150 Chargers!

Chargers were few when I wanted to buy my first car in 1982. I saw beat up wrecks for $500 and really nice original cars for $2500 or more. I had a tight budget of $500 and being a kid, the car would be at my parent's house and it had to run and drive. I ended up with a 69 Dart.
When I bought my first Charger in 2000, the Challenger and Barracuda were the expensive Mopars. The Chargers were not $500 cars but they were cheaper.
I bought mine because I always wanted a 68-70 model. I actually wanted a 1969 model and planned a front end swap. The '70 styling grew on me. It helped that my car had a pristine grille and excellent panel alignment.
