Dude that pretty cool, while I enjoy the 440 and fun with mine, i love the idea of a quiet, smooth cruiser like that too. and it seems to have held up nicely mechanically too. will be a fun car to see the updates on.

I don't know that I could stand keeping a Charger stock if it was a slant six model.
I understand the appeal of the engine in a car without such a performance image. A slanty in a stripped out Dart or Valiant doesn't bother me.

Think the only way any one would leave the slant 6 in a Charger would be if they had more than one Charger so they could drive something that fit their mood at the time

A slant is everybody's idea of a nice 3rd or 4th Charger in their garage.  Nobody wants it for their only one. 


Some guys are happy with a 318 car for their only one, though.  It's easy on gas and it still sounds like a V8.  It's powerful enough not to feel annoyingly slow.   

Ironically the smaller motors will probably get more popular (at least a little bit) as modern sports cars continue to get faster.  If your 60yo classic car doesn't feel remotely fast compared to any modern stuff, it will seem less important which old motor is in there.


Side note - that slant '70 in the video has '69 taillight lenses.

I agree with you there Mike.
As new cars are so amazingly fast and smooth, the raw speed we used to aim for with the classics may become less important than just enjoying the "old car" experience and simplicity.

I find as I get older I more and more appreciate stock numbers matching stuff, even if it's not high performance.
I've got a 2 owner fully matching numbers survivor 318 69 charger on the way to me.
I'm definitely restoring it to be like the day it rolled out of the factory.
The 318 will be fun, and won't kill a guy on gas but to me it's very cool it's the numbers engine.

My 70 Charger was drag raced for 8 years prior to my purchase. I'd bought it regardless of engine (318) or numbers.  318 and /6 are some of the best engines ever made bar none.

I agree that the standard engines were great for everyday use. They were reliable and provided adequate power.'
They never won any races or got your pulse moving faster but they were great for transportation.

Chris Birdsong had a '68 slant six... for a couple months.
Then he sold it because he was tired of getting passed by Geo Metros and school buses.

A Charger with a slant six must be like a beautiful woman with a stuffed bra and a canyon crotch.
It looks good but falls WAY short on performance.

as rare as it is ! & as much as i'm a second generation charger nut &  would like to see every rare option charger restored to factory OEM etc just because    ! as mentioned here be ok if you have got enough disposable income to have 2  the slant six just look or enter in a judged oem type show or loan / donate to a museum  & then your main charger either  a factory oem type or souped up or what ever makes your pulse race !  think everyone & their dog  whants a charger with sound &  power & excitment ! every time  you get behind the wheel & crank the motor, the sound ..... the smell ... the feeling as the idle sound changes  when you put it in drive with your foot on the brake depending how radical your cam is  got goose bumps just talking well typing  about it      yes a slant six  charger has  still got the looks ! of the most beautiful shaped car that will ever be built & finest shape known to man except the body of a woman ... maybe     think if you find a good deal on a slant six charger that still has a slant six for me anyway would build   the charger as i want , keep the original slant six engine / running gear in the garage. rare & desirable & valuable  dont always go together  although with some these rare disirable valuable muscle cars are they only desirable to some because of their value, & not because they are a real fan /enthusiast/obcessed/ of that particular make model options...... like i am & we all are with the second generation to varing degrees
