converter, headers & manual steering

I have a 383 4bbl, .455 purple shaft cam, .355 gears. I have the stock torque converter in this car and it seems a little slugish still. I want to be able to cruise on the street but have better punch. What converter should I be running?   How much of a difference do headers make? I am switching from power to manual steering, mainly for better feel. What kind of horsepower gain can I expect from switching from power to manual steering.   Also is cold air induction worth persuing and easy to install?   Thanks for the help. converter will make the biggest difference in the feel of the car , headers can help too depending more on the head work & exhaust used with it
tuning can make a big difference & you probably need a 2000 stall minimum with the cam you have

A fresh air kit is one of those things that you won't notice in the seat of your pants but every little bit helps and it's free (after you put it on of course).
How hard or easy it is to put on depends onhow professional you want it to look.  You can slap some simple dryer vent hose under there and booger it up with duct tape or spend some time and money trying to make it look factory.  There is a place that makes underhood ram air set ups and I think their kits go for around 150.
