has anyone bought/installed one of keislers 5 speeds? seems like a pretty good set up they have, with a kit that includes everything you'd need to go from auto to manual...and with todays gas prices that over drive sure would be nice...

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

I have that set-up :icon_smile_big:
I got it just a couple of weeks ago.  I'm in the midst of installing the new trans hump etc now.
There are some guys on here that have it:
470 Magnum (I think)
The Dayclona crew...

Do a search.

Do you're homework.

Great modification. I love mine. It's not cheap.

Lot's of folks have issues with Keisler. I had some minor ones, but overall they treated me well.

Don't expect big fuel mileage gains.

i wasn't thinking more gas mileage as i was wear on the engine...i will have 3.91's in the back and i was thinking either this or a gear vendors (spell check) overdrive to keep the revs down on the highway...but when it came down to it i'd rather spend the money on a manual

Got it and love it!!!  Wasn't that bad of an install.  They had great customer service with me and when they forgot to include the throw out bearing, they fed-exed one to me the next day.  I have 3.55's in the rear, and it makes crusin' on the highway a lot more tolerable!  I agree, don't count on saving $$$$$$$$$$ on gas, but it does make more fun for bangin' more gears!!!

Supercharged Riot

For those of you that did the conversion. Did you instal it yourself? whats the overall cost asfter having it put in? I intend to convert an auto to a manual.

was it hard?

Well...   I went to a different company for the trans...     wasnt modified like the Keisler...    but was cheaper afterall...       3.55's with the .68OD is gear on the freeway...    the 3.27 first gear also kicks ass...

Variations of the Tremec tranny are being used in newer Mustangs & some other modern cars.  (The Tremec trannys were really designed for O.E. cars, not aftermarket sales at all.)  You could buy some parts from Tremec & convert one yourself if you wanted to put the work into it.

But I think Tremec does some more serious case mods to make it fit right, not to mention some internal beefing over the standard ones.  From what I understand, it's just not an easy drop-in operation to run another Tremec from a scrapyard and get the same thing that Kiesler is selling.

For my money, I'm considering the Passon overdrive rebuild in a stock A-833 instead.  I don't mind the fewer gears & old Mopar external shifter.

Rolling_Thunder

yeah - the company was Darkhorse Performance...    really cool guys - and cost around $3500   ---   about $1500 cheaper than the Keisler kit...     doesnt come with a crossmember or a driveshaft - but i didnt really care because i fabbed my own to have the money....     no pedals either --  I have bought those from Troy about 2 years ago

Any 5 speed out a camero is known as a T-5 and only comes with about a 300 ft lb rating for the world class variant.      If anybody is putting one into their mopar it's probably a small block and / or A body light weight car because T-5's blow up fairly easily - ask me how I know.     There is a company (G-force?) that upgrades the internals on these at upwards of $2K....   for that much why bother.     Most 3rdgen camero / firebird guys use some punks wrecked LT1 car for a parts whore for a T56 upgrade.....    that's how I got mine   ;D

As for the Keisler -  nope -  never heard of it  -    sounds interesting.   Somebody should try that out someday  :icon_smile_big:

There is much more to fuel mileage than engine rpm. Carb calibration is far more influential. In my case, rpms dropped so much I was cruising on the carburetor's transfer circuit with an AFR of about 12:1 and my fuel mileage tanked.

I did some intensive tuning with a wide band O2 sensor to get the AFR up where it should be, but I have yet to take a long enough highway trip to verify the results.
