Made myself some hood signals......

My 68 charger hasn't had hood signals operational for a while. Only because I had broken the ear off one of the housings so there was no way for mount one side.

I recently got interested in 3d modeling. I thought hey I could probably make my own housing . So a little time on the computer.. and few hours of printing and I came up with these..

Pretty happy with how they turned out.. still have to paint them..

Canadian1968

A few pictures of my solution to the ground.  Since the housing is now made of plastic .

It may not be 100 oem  but its close and in my opinion a better design then trying to make the housing ground itself threw the little tabs on the hood. AND not sure if you have looked at the cost of repos these days ..... :RantExplode:

If anyone is interested in set of these for their car. Send me a PM

I wish the 1970 Chargers didn't go with that little #330 bulb for the hood turn signals.....ws hard to see in the daytime....I thought about putting a LED light strip behind the lens.....but life got in the way and the car has gone to someone else before I got a chance to try my idea

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Having just recently installed some repops I can safely say your solution is a winner. All reproduction parts should say "Some RE assembly required".  Or " glue used in assembling this part are partially imaginary".

Thanks for the comments.  I'm taking them to work to finally paint them tomrrow. Because the resin is UV activated if I leave them as is there is chance of them over curing from exposure to sunlight and maybe cracking. Even though they are under the hood I don't want to take the chance.   I will point out these are not made from your basic cheap 3d printing resin . The resin used was picked because of it high strength and ability to stand up to under hood Temps. They will never rust and not brittle like the pot metal the original housings are made of.  I'm going to print the backing plates as well .

You have a bright future in the repop industry, should you decide to accept it.

Looks Great, do you have a solution for the ground wire?

Canadian1968

Not sure exaxtly what you mean ?

The ground wire from the light can be grounded anywhere and any way that you please. My choice is to simply ground it to inner hood support opening . I will post some pics soon.

I actually finally got some transparent orange resin so I can try and print the lense as well.

Unfortunately waiting on replacement piece for my printer.  Will be here on Dec 14th ! .

I was just asking if you plan to run a wire along side the hot wire or drill a hole locally and use a small ring connector. All is good..

Canadian1968

My preference would be a short ground like you described
.
But if someone wanted to run the ground to different location. They can let me know and I will make the wire to their specifications.

I would like to offer a complete kit that includes the housing , lights, backing plate, lense,  partial wiring and all mounting hardware.

OR  I could offer each piece individually should someone only need one part!

Unfortunately this set back with my printer has me at a stand still.

Looks great! Has anyone made a replacement for the metal part that holds the studs?

Are you referring to lamp housing or retainer ?

Picture of printed piece with threaded rods installed .

And a picture of full assembled unit with an original retainer .

Looks great. I epoxied an ear, that i fabricated, on one of my housings and it has held so far. Kind of a crappy design but then again how many cars have hood mounted turn indicators? Your design looks great, I may be interested.
