I might have a chance to go look at a 68 Coronet R/T 4 speed matching numbers project

I kind of have an idea on Charger prices but not sure on the Coronet
In the past I have had a 68 Coronet but it was just a parts car for a Charger project I was working on at the time

These are just numbers to compare to

If a 68 Charger R/T project was worth $20 000
How much would a 68 Coronet in the same condition be worth ?

Is that a $15 000 car or closer to $18 000 car ?

Well good or bad I ended up draging this one home today
68 R/T Coronet
Still has the original numbers matching 440 in it
4 speed QQ1 bright blue metalic paint
Bucket seats with the buddy seat

Only metal work left that needs doing is the inner fender around the battery tray and it came with a new amd inner fender and new battery tray

Car has changed hands a few times but the ownership is still in the original owners name so at this point a one registered owner car

Build sheet , fender tag , even has the order form that was used to order the car from the dealership in 68

Was about half the price a 68 Charger would have been in the same condition so why not  :2thumbs:
Plan for now will be to get it running and yard driving with the best parts on it and maybe sand it down and some black primer so all one colour

Who cares about it being all one color?

Looks like all rust underneath. Sandblast it and will be "all she wrote."

Fixed.

It is not too bad that way
It was new metal that they never painted after they replaced the floors so it should have some thickness too it to work with

Congrats on your purchase!!! Best Mopar taillights/trim panel ever! FYI, there's a red lens inside the housing that make the clear reverse lens appear red when the tail/brake lights are on and the reverse lights aren't.

I think the Coronets are under appreciated. I like them, I have a '68 440 project. They are the closest thing to a Charger, but usually one of the cheapest 68-70 B bodies. I just don't like the C pillars on the 68-70 B bodies. They are awkward looking from a side profile, looks like a notch back 68-69 Barracuda.

The bad thing about the R/T is they came with the non-rallye dash standard when the Super Bee came with the Rallye dash standard. I don't know what they were thinking.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

70 sublime

I do not mind the dash
Kind of neat to know the difference between the R/T version and the regular version with the speed numbers
Plain was 10 20 30 up to 120 and R/T was 1 2 3 up to 15

Nice find. I would leave it multi-color, looks cool. :2thumbs:

Nice car, you don't see many 68 Coronet R/Ts.
There is a third speedo (102030...150 that I have in my early 68 GTX and have seen in other GTX's but I don't ever recall seeing one in a Coronet R/T
but then there seams to be a lot more GTX's than R/Ts.  I like the look of the 150 better but the 15 type is a lot easier to read when driving.
My first Charger was a Stock Car.

my daughter just told me "that must be a really old car if it only goes up to 15 "
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

I had an almost exact copy of that car except in green and a rally dash. Wish I still had it.
You know you are vintage when someone says, "Back in the day", and you can dispute their facts.

As it turns out the Coronet was a local car from the begining and just lived one town over
The ownership is still in the original owners name so I looked him up

At lunch time I went over to see if he was still at the same address
Yep he was there
A skinny 79 year old man

Boy did he grin ear to ear when I told him his car was still alive

He told a few stories and how he liked to shift at 40 and 75 and then 110 mph to get to forth gear all the time
Said the fastest he ever went was 145 mph and the car was still gaining
Only thing faster was when a 6 pack showed up in the area a couple years later

He was about 25 when he bought the car new

He mentioned if it was still the original engine it should have the twin points in the distributor
So I already knew the engine was numbers matching and popped the cap off when I got home and yes it still has it twin point set up

I asked if he ever had any troubles with the engine or transmission and he said all was good
He said he never had to change the clutch either

Car has 82218 original miles on it

As far I know the Speedo's with or without 0 diff is related to the year. 68s should be with 0 until 69 production began when changed to speedos without the 0, so mostly sure lates 68 got these.
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

I talked with the sand blaster last week and they can do it any time and then spray it with epoxy
Said I should get paint on the epoxy with in 90 days
That might be my problem if I have to take my car someplace to get the body finished off for paint before my 90 days are up
The odds are pretty good I would have to move it home again on the salt covered roads

So for now going to wait till spring to get it sand blasted so the salt will not be a problem and tinker around with my 70 Charger that I have already gotten the paint on the insides so I can get the engine in and interior back together

I'm interested in what method the blaster is using, wet or dry and what media are they using.  90 days is far longer than any time I have ever heard of to get something on bare metal after blasting.

Just regular dry sand

They paint it with epoxy when done blasting but said if I understand corectly it should get paint on top of the epoxy with in 90 days
