Fender Tag

OK, Two of my Chargers are missing fender Tags, I could buy them of Ebay (I see them now and then), but my question is, will that be the right way, and how can I replace them and keep the cars true as to their original build? I like to drive my cars, but plan to visit Carlie this year for the first time, now in every crowd a guy will be all over this issue when I pop the hood. Sure I could say "wheres yous pal" and that shuts up most but I want to truthfull or not at all when ansewering questions off my cars! So next to making my own or scalping one from another car, is their any place that reproduces the tag if proof is given???

Thanks Brian Stark

Unless you have one made SOMEWHERE??? your not gonna do any good getting one off of another car ( I.D. # won't match) I wouldn't worry about it.  :Twocents: When someone asks where is it say someone just stole it....was it you?

Thanks for the answer I will use them with care!

I really don't know of anyone who has been bugged about not having the tag at a car show. It wouldn't make much sense to just grab any fender tag and stick it on your car because 1. it isn't for your car and 2. the guys looking at the tag will then determine it's a fraud and say bad things about you. ;) You're better off just leaving it alone. Another guy and I both drove our cars to Carlisle without visible VIN tags. Try that if you want attention... (yes, both cars are legal).

You'll need the build sheet if you want a tag made. Making one without knowing what the car came with isn't much better than just slapping a random tag on it.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

It does bug some people.  I don't have the fender tag attached under my hood and it's surprising the number of people who feel compelled to point that out to me.  :D

Shouldn't matter re the tag unless your trying to sell the car.

If you have the broadcast sheet, based on you saying you had the proof to have a tag created, your good to go and really don't need the fender tag. The broadcast sheet can back up your cars options when you go to sell it or show it! Just laminate it and stick it in the winshield...not over the vin. The vin will tell everyone if the car is an R/T, 383, 318 etc. or not.

Or instead of buying a new tag....if someone says to you "hey, your tag is missing"...you just say "no really ::):smilielol:

Well I see your points and sell is where the Tag is going to be the problem if the buyer has a problem. Two of the cars have no Tag or build sheet, but they are planed to stay with me any way!
Thank You!

I removed the tag from my car and do not care if people get bent not seeing it. I would rather have it home, safe from vandals.

I'm just the opposite, I leave the origional fender tag on my car, and gladly open up the hood for anyone to look at it. If someone thinks that they are going to be sneaky and steal it, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Its a piece of metal with numbers and letters on it. What good is it going to do someone else? I know my car, and to be honest I've got the fender tag information memorized, and the broadcast sheet is always safe at home. So getting another tag wouldnt be a problem at all.

My car is highly optioned, so it has 2 tags. Should I be concerned about them disappearing? Have most members here removed their tags for safekeeping or have they left them on the car?
Thanks.

Only if you are at a car show and you left your hood up. I was thinking of putting some odd ball screws on mine if I go to a show and leave my car unattended.

I've never worried too much about the fender tag on my R/T to be honest.  It'd be REALLY hard for someone to do anything with a fender tag alone, when it comes to trying to pass off another car as mine.  In order to pull off a fraudulent remake of my car they'd really need the VIN tag too, so as long as I don't remove that and leave it lying around at a car show I should be alright

The biggest worry would probably be someone just stealing it to be ornery or as some sort of keepsake.  Could happen, and I'm taking my chances that it won't by leaving my hood up and wandering off to talk/look as much as I do.

Then again, when I take the car to a show on the truck, it's fairly well protected...   :smilielol:

:iagree: This is what I would say, and here is someone that actually does it.  " I keep it off, I'm not risking someone taking it, it's only held on with two screws."  That's what I would say, as I am missing mine (I think?  long story).
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Never thought about that, I'd probably be more worried about those than the Fender tag!

:P

FJMG

So when you are worried you can install the aluminum dishes along with the repop fen. tag and little locks on the cars equipped with hood pins, etc. AAAHHHH maybe not! Maybe we'll just drive the cars, and enjoy some of the local cruise nights!

I wonder how long it will be before the fear of theft and/or vandalism will drive some of us to build a clone of what we own and take it to the  car shows instead!!!  What a thought!  (wait a minute that's two cars instead of one, hmmm).

Charger Steve

I never worry about my fender tag but at a show once someone unsrewed one of my battery caps and left it laying on it's side on top of the battery. I thought this was strange, if he wanted to steal it he already had it off and could have pocketed it easily, but he left it just laying on top of the battery. Maybe he was interupted and just dropped it and made a hasty retreat. There are low lifes no matter where you go. That guy was lucky I didn't catch him. I would have broken his fingers first and then his face followed by any other body part i could!
