Where do you usually set the timing 14 or 10 degrees... the car that it's in and the engine that is in it's a 400 big block it has Edelbrock RPM intake manifold 750 Edelbrock carburetor TTI headers.. two and a half inch exhaust stock 383 cylinder heads. Ported a little bit.... with 11 to 1 high top Pistons.... where do you usually set the timing up 10 or 14 degrees or 16.... everything else is pretty much stock it has AC power steering stock fan clutch

the dist needs to be recurved, most like 20 to 24 initial, total all in around 2k ish, 36 to 40 total, all checked with vacuum advance unplugged , a lot of unknown info on your engine, what is the actual compression, not a guess

The best approach would be to find someone that has a distributor machine

I should have told you that I have this distributor in it https://www.manciniracing.com/mpnew6.html

That is literally a stock replacement distributor.   This one features adjustable advances.   https://www.manciniracing.com/maravaadeldi1.html

Old school guys would weld up the mechanical advance mechanism to limit mechanical advance.    The object being to limit total timing to mid 30 degrees.    When you have about 20 degrees initial,  that limits you to about 15 degrees or thereabouts of mechanical advance.      When you start with a dizzy that's designed for 10 degrees initial,  your total timing can go into the detonation zone when you advance the initial timing that far.

With an adjustable dizzy,  you can add / subtract mechanical as necessary.
