Bwahaha
5 mins in and they bought an all orrigional 60 sum thousand mile tureno
I can see where this is going.
I might just have to check out the ford sites to see how pissed they are about this.
"were going to do what we do best, put a big block in it, make it go fast"
"were going to put some bling in it"
Its a good day not to be a ford guy!!

The Ghoul

WOW
sorry still watching it...
I just saw them cut off a coil of the springs to drop it, and use an impact gun to compress them!!!
They also just converted a manual tree shifter to an automatic.
And they call the people modifying imports dumb ricers!!

RD

i dont agree with what barry does to alot of his stuff, but I will:

STILL CALL THE PEOPLE MODIFYING IMPORTS DUMB RICERS!!!

hehe, trying to get under your skin :D :D

Did you mean Torino?
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

whitehatspecial

That car had 6000 original miles on it and was a total creampuff. It did have a 6 banger, but if they left it alone and they would have gotten almost the same money for it.

Cars owned:
1968 Dodge Charger, 48k orig. miles, family owned since new.
Not a Hemi, a mini-hemi 340.

Blown70

My lord.  That car what topped out at 28,500?  You kidding.  Heck a bench seat anything mopar would have been 35,000.  Heck maybe even a 4 door.....

THE CHARGER PUNK

that 71 torino would be a great car for a  nice classic car that you can drive day 2 day and not have 2 worry about it , yet its in great shape all orignal, i would have taken it and left it stock,it shows the interior change and nothing changes lol the column shifter is just different LoL-MATTT

oops, yep been hanging around them damn ricers too long.

:icon_smile_blackeye:

I gotta say If I were to pick the 2 worst ways to lower a coil spring car the first would be cutting one of the coils (car feels way stiffer and it squeaks like crazy) and the second would be getting cable clamps and clamping together 2 of the coils (bends the crap out of the spring and threatens to pop off any moment. And using an impact gun on a spring compressor is just asking for trouble!!!

RT DAVE

It was better when they were done with it.  Nobody in their right mind would prefer a 6 banger three on the tree over what they made the car into.

I dont disagree there. I am just saying that its a shame that they had to take an all origional car that was that nice and do that to it!
Shows that they are after that $$ rather than respecting the car. Which makes sence because as stated many times before he started off as a drag racer, so what he knows is making the car go fast stock equiptment be damned.
If I were doing that to the car I would have done something to the intirror... still smacked of old lady!

Goldfinger71

Personally I think had it been a fastback it would have looked better. But I have come to realize that Boyd,Foose,Barry NO ONE with a show about building cars will EVER make everybody happy! :yesnod:

Wrecks to Riches.

The 'wrecks' should have been changed to 'mint' for this episode ::)

Pull a car out of a junkyard or someones backyard and make it new again...........that impresses me more. :yesnod:

I actually like that body style 70,71 torino. That thing was mint,it had 6,900 miles and even though was a six and 3 on the tree, was pretty cool and if I bought it ,I probably left it alone and showed it like it was( a time capsule).I understand Barrys concept on his builds, but when you find something like this ,no matter what make it is,is a piece of history and should be left alone. What if that was a 318 69 charger with 6900 miles, how would we feel watching what he would do to it.I'm sure there are people out there that love torinos just as much as we love chargers and were dissappointed what happened to it.Most of your mopar owners are in the mode of mopar or no car,I like mopars especially ,but there are alot of other cars that I like also.

Just like my 23k original mile 318 68 coronet 440,was stored from 1970 -1994 with only 13k miles, from 1994-98 was driven as a survivor up to 22k miles.Thats when I bought it,and because of some chips and scratches, and paint being faded,I did a resto on it(paint, rechrome bumpers, new carpet,NOS headliner, pull drivetrain for detailng,(not rebuilding),brakes ,shocks, etc.),and now I enjoy driving it,showing it,even though it is a 318,gets alot of attention.I still ,every now and then, see the original owners daugther at a local car cruise, and she is thrilled that it ended up with someone like me.Always has a smile on her face when she see's it.Just showing you that you don't have to have that hemi....that six-pack....convert.....gtx....etc.,although it would be nice,to enjoy these old cars. And yes I probably am aimed more at stock cars, but still like checking out those modified as well.

I agree but will take it one step farther.
Any one that does something non-stock to a car will never make every body happy.

I think the interior killed that car. It looked incredible until you looked inside. Put some buckets in the thing at least. Who cares if the interior is cherry if it's a crappy interior? It was like looking into an old taxi.

SirNik73

Here is a pic of the car.
I wish i could see it before they messed with it.

they changed very little on it asthetically. Just imagine lighter blue, hubcaps, no shaker hood, no stripe on the side, and the bump guard molding on the sides.

cobradriver

gotta figure if the car would have stayed a 6 banger it would eventualy have died on the vine...no one would have wanted it and it prob wouldnthave the same care as it will now...i used to have a 68 torino GT formal roof....great car....yeah yeah i know its still a ford....my loyalty is split 50/50. since i still own a 69 mach1.  But i will admit the more i tinker with my charger,....the more im in love with it....cant wait to go to afganastan so i can save up the money to have the paint redone......!!!

BrianShaughnessy

I didn't see the episode and didn't see pics of it till I just looked at this post again....     It's not a fastback / GT / Cobra style...  it's not gonna pull the kinda $ he wanted to get for it - ever.

500+ CID new rear end, new automatic trans.  ::)
I have to say 6 banger or not if that was any private buyer for that car it would have stayed all origional.
I have a feeling after most the small block cars have had big engines wedged in them, the numbers matching small block or slant 6 cars will be more rare and start going for big money. I have no doubt that the big blocks will still bring in more $ but I could easly see numbers small block cars going for more money than clones.
