Just took the Charger for a little spin to pick up some beer  ;D and since its hot out, I turned on the A/C.  As soon as I clicked the fan speed up I along with the interior got a nice coating of white flake/dust.  After using it for a few more seconds it stopped it a tiny bit more coming out. Last year I noticed a little bit of dust coming out but not this much. First time since the winter that I turned the A/C or fan on so whatever it is has been building up.

Anyone have this happen to them? The A/C blows ice cold still which is great but now I have to vacuum up the interior :brickwall:

I was going to go with mice but white powder brings up memories of watching Miami Vice....   :icon_smile_big:

Is the evaporator core made of aluminum?  Maybe aluminum oxide then?

haha! if that was the case I would be putting a baggie over the vent and selling it to fund a new engine

I thought mice at first but it doesnt smell at all.  Great point about the evaporator core.. hmm :scratchchin:

I have the CAA setup. I have not seen this in my car yet.

I do as well and frankly have nothing but issues with it since it was installed.
I have slowly but surely collected all the necessary parts to convert it back with new R-whatever it is now.
Just saving up to pay for the shop and restoration of the parts.
I'm sorry that doesn't answer your question but that system was a waste of my money IMHO. Just my  :Twocents:

Sorry to hear you are having other issues as well, I don't have a choice to go factory as mine didn't come with A/C from the factory.  Did it blow dust after sitting as well?

This Superintendent (Hans) from my job told a story once....
He and his girlfriend (future wife) were all dressed up and on their way to some wedding of a friend. It was Summertime and her car was temporarily out of commission so they took his Chevy truck. He was a part time farmer and full time construction worker. She  said.."I'm hot" and reached for the A/C controls. Before he could stop her, the fan came on and blew a huge cloud of dust and debris all over both of them.
He never used the A/C and had been using the truck on the farm for years. He laughed. SHE was not amused.
I wonder if what you had was just regular dust that settled in there. That is what happened to Hans.

i doubt it would be the evaporator as this is a closed system unless it's oxide on the outer of the radiator it's either dust or being white it could be the inner box insulation deteriorating

Haven't used it in a while (AC) so I will re-post when it comes out and I give it a try. Mine freezes if it is on for a while which is useless for trips, especially since I purchased the car with driving to Carlisle and Moparfest in mind. But mine started to leak several years into the install. Sweat...dunno? Which is why I was watching your post. :shruggy:

Mine is fine. Never any issues hot or cold. I've the system for a car that had A/C but has nothing but the vents left. Installed 5-6 years ago.  :2thumbs:

This happened every time I turned on a functioning system in these old rigs back in the day.
It'll clear out.

Ive had new rigs spit out droplets of water.  Today we have ac filters that keep that from happening.

Thank you for all of the replies/feedback, it is appreciated.

I went for another ride yesterday and with all the windows open had the fan going full speed and it eventually stopped with the dust. I will try it again and see if it is a recurring situation or not but what a mess the first time. Below are pics from when it first happened.

Well, yes. That was my point.   :shruggy:

If the evaporator core was made of AL and not coated it would be exposed to the air that's being forced through it, cooling the air which is then expelled it into the cabin. AC units cause water to condense on the evaporator core which typically drips off and is passed out of the vehicle. Sometimes it freezes the condensation requiring engine coolant to be used to thaw it. Thus the core is exposed to cycles of moisture and the exposed AL may oxidize and flake. When it drys out it's expelled by the next use.

I dunno, maybe I'm way off on this. Was just a shot in the dark anyway.  :P
