Quick update on the Runner: Got rear ended...

  (see last post for pics):

I spent a conciderable amount of time in the past week attempting to e-mail myself the 1.3 meg. cell phone pics i made on my first inspection and only managed to get one crappy quality pic... So i could post them here... I cant belive how difficult it is to hunt n peck on this cell phone!  :P
hardly worth the trouble,.. I inquired about a "bluetooth" connection at some stores,.. and on the web, I downloaded some info from the net,.. I asked the tech guys at work,.. i went to radio shack and three stores...
they directed me to this guy...  :-\

Yesterday Thurs.the 25th 10:00 am:  i alloted 45 minutes to go down and pull the rear seat and take alittle look see,..
seat wouldn't budge,.. got a hernia,.. got another hernia and wrenched my back,.. seat no movee,..

  :flame:

finally after 30 minutes of rearranging my spine i pulled the one corner of the upper seat back that was unstuck as far out as i could and wedged my head behind it and under the parcel shelf and rear glass to see WTF was'a going on?...
couldn't see too much cause it was dark, but my head got stuck,.. did i mention i was swearing?.. ..alot?..  :pity: lots of time passed where i realized this was really a two man operation,..
one to cry in out pain and frustration and another to call an ambulance...
  i'll cut to the chase...

went thru the trunk with a long screwdriver to bend the bottom out board hooks back to a position that actually allowed them to un hook...
upon removal of the seat, i discovered a treasure trove of items unseen since Jimmy Carter the peanut farmer was in office...

a diary with two entries,.. no year... in spainish.

a unused book of matches from Harrahs' Reno.

a school absence report from 1975.

a post card from  Diamond Lake and Mount Thielsen. (to Linsey from Sandy, sounds like it was a nice Vacation  ;D  but no postage or stamp so it was never sent  ???   )

a tooled buckskin wallett with a couple biz cards for spanish Biz development and a sears and robuck layaway receipt.

a small, round, sticker that says "People Really Count".

a wide variety of local Maps incl. a USA road guide & atlas and Penticostal relgious materials.

four pencils, two pens,.. a metal nail file, $1.26 in change, 4 quarters, two dimes and two pennies.

metal clasp like onna clipboard and a elastic cord...

alot of dirt and dust from the carpet jute and road dust,.. at this point i decided to abandon my idea of only cleaning the drivers side and leaving the years of grime on the Pass. side... so i got the scrapers and shop vac out...

P.S.
the build sheet (in shredded pieces) was handed to me by the previous owner who apparently bought the 78K mile '71 340 for $4K in june last yr...  im attempting a reconstruction of the B.S.  in plastic, still needed...  it was under the front seat...

the trunk contained recepts for the three sets of "Big O" tires the car has appearently worn... a Carb box containing the original 850 Cfm carb. two fan belts, the original Polyglass f-14 70... & the jack never seems to have been out of the car..
Seems im slowly stripping her for cleaning...

oh, i nearly forgot, hanging from the rear V Brace behind the rear seat, was a really neat silver and gold medallion i would guess is from the '70s..  O0

Sounds like it was stolen by illegals in the mid to late 70"s.   :icon_smile_big:

Brock Samson

 I could see that..
the original owners wife learned to drive in the car,.. i think they took excellent road trip vacations... back in the '71-90  or thereabouts... the son who sold the car was unconcerned with the value... everyone else is really appreciative of it's conditon, even the seatbelts are flawless...
i surmise he started a biz when they got married,.. then son came along,..  ;)

Don't worry Brockenstrat, there's enough detail in your story to cover the missing pics.  :D

I enjoyed reading about your backseat finds! The one thing I always look forward to when buying another rig is pulling out the back seat and seeing what treasures are there.  You discover a lot of history on the car doing this. When the cars are original like yours, the found stuff always tells a great story....

Beautiful car.

i don't care for them....
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

i cant beleive i agree with ghost on this.  :-\

:icon_smile_big: steelies are better.

Darkness

Quotesteelies are better.

Yeah, if you can get a paint quote on them.

Brock Samson

    ??? huh?..
well the car only came with three options,.. the Transverse stripe in Black, The Power Steering and the Rallye Wheels...
about those widened steelies?.. anyone gotta pic?..
...with so little bright work on the car (the bumpers abd the door handles being it) The wheels'n tires  are very important to the overall look..

So far,.. im thinking, Bigs 'n littles, a Tuff/Grant Wheel, a Tach  a few underdash guages,.. a hidden stereo and an obvious fire extingusher...
...Chromed exhaust turndowns at the rear axel... and maybe buckets... nothing that can't be removed to return to stock...
what you think?..

Lowprofile

Check the other thread I started about "its a roadrunner"   There's two examples of steelies w/ hub caps there. :icon_smile_big:

I offer $10 to the first person that can post pics of this car.  ;)

When dealing with a survivor, the more crap you add to the car (like hideous aftermarket gauges), the more the car distances itself from a true survivor. Dealing with a survivor car is not easy. Most people buy them because they are just that, but have a hard time not doing little things that make them become un-original.

ps- Is there a broadcast sheet for the car?

That's quite a generous offer, but I'd settle for $500   ;)

Here's the beast, as of last week.  Technical difficulties have (allegedly) limited the number of available pics...

Strat, first take your meds. Second, NOBODY bid on them, but somehow you missed that? Now that the auction is over, contact the guy and make a deal on your own for the overpriced lenses.
