The Charger script on the sail panel

Has anyone put the little nuts that holds them on when the head liner is already in ?

Just trying to make a plan for putting my 70 back together
At the speed I am going it might take another year to get the car all back together so was thinking about just painting the interior and under hood and trunk area and around window glass first
Get the rest of the car back together and then do the final paint on the outside after

Actually the script pins use a metal insert to secure them in place (see pic).

Props to you wanting to have these on your Charger as they're meant to be.

I've seen some 2nd gen Chargers w/o the scripts and holes filled in lately.

That will make life easier  :2thumbs:

My 70 has new quarters on it and I need to drill the mounting holes but will just measure my 69 to get the location

I had to drill out my holes due to the previous owner(s) filling the holes with body filler. With the sail panel headliner liner material removed, I ended up locating the holes from the the seeping bondo. Then I used a super long drill bit for easier drilling.

i kinda regret not putting the c pillar script on my car. they were not there before i got the car (roof and quarters done by PO in primer).  Before i drill through and probably mess it all up, I'm getting vinyl decals made up to hopefully match factory and seeing if it looks good enough this summer. plus the repop chrome was $150 canukistani pesos each side when i checked last year...

I have never taken any script off a car to know how they were stuck on
I did notice on the inner structure of the roof support it looked like one special round hole in the web right behind where the script would be is what made me ask
i will see if I can get a picture later today

Both mine had nuts on the backside.

Black car went back together with barrel nuts from the fastenal store.

Copper car went back together with nuts...   in retrospect I wish I'd have used the barrel nuts.

Had a thought
Could the cars with the nuts on the back have been painted roof car and the cars that just push on had a vinyl top ?

As in the head liner was already in when they got around to putting the vinyl on and no way to get to the back side anymore ??

mr. hemi

My painted roof car had and still does have nuts on the emblems. I believe (it was nearly 40 years ago) I reinstalled them prior to the headliner being installed.
You know you are vintage when someone says, "Back in the day", and you can dispute their facts.

You can see the two round holes in the inner roof web that I am guessing would line up with the script mounting holes

I am elbow deep in vinyl top replacement.

I'm tall and agile and I cannot reach that second nut on the Charger sail panel emblem from inside the trunk.

My interior is original and in good condition- im assuming the headliner can be salvaged if I lift it to remove the second nut on these emblems.

Any success stories?

I cant speak for a 3rd gen Charger, but on a 2nd gen the headliner has to be pulled back

It's a 68.

My username hasn't been applicable for quite some time.

Thanks for the insight. I just had the rear seat out to replace the package tray. Should have embraced my ill fate then.
