Hi All Ive got a 74 dodge charger bone stock 318 California car. The engine has some smog controls on it. Luckily i no longer need to pass smog in California. Unluckily I had a valve snap off when I was starting the car, but on the bright side she wasn't running so the damage doesn't seem too bad. The distributer had come loose and advanced all the way. I'm looking to replace the head and I want to know If I can run a no smog head on the car, it looks to me like 2 little holes are the only difference but I'm not sure if this would cause problems with my Intake manifold or anywhere else? Thanks a ton for any help!

Welcome
virtually any 64-92 LA head will bolt on , basicall there were 2 different size heads , small port used on the 273/318 , & the larger port 340/360 heads
probably the best head to use would be a pair of the 87-92 swirl 318 heads casting # 302

Neil:

Are the 302 castings considered smog heads and won't that impact performance negatively on nay pre-smog motors?

Seeking knowledge,

actually they have far superior combustion chambers & generally will dramatically increase performace on older 318s
