GM keeps using truck-type vehicles for these conversions because it's the only easy way to do it.  The battery pack is basically a huge one-piece item that fills most of the cargo bed.   


Converting a Chevelle or Camaro would require a lot more hacking.  Either that, or else a tiny battery pack with no decent range.
