Are these harmonic balance installation tool's really needed or just a "helper tool" to make it easier? I've just used the bolt.  :shruggy:

That plate on that tool seems pretty thin :shruggy:  Using the bolt to install the damper puts stress on the threads in the crank.  I normally use the Hemi crank bolt to start a damper and then use the forged crank bolt to install it the rest of the way. But the result over the years has been the washer is concave in the wrong direction and the damper doesn't seem properly seated to do it's job. Last time, I heated the damper to 200 in the oven and used the "proper" tool.

I have the complete set of installation tools from Mac Tools & Snap-On....the bolt from each kit threads into the crankshaft and stays put....then the forcing washer and nut installs the damper....then just unscrew the tool from the crank....saves wear & tear on the crank threads and the stock crank bolt

I ended up buying a Summit install tool that's discontinued now. It got me 95% of the way and I used the bolt and one of Rick's eBay balancer holders.  :2thumbs:
