This guy wants to buy my car

I took the Charger to the store the other day just after I put the new wheels and tires on. I was coming up to a stop light and this guy in an suv makes me roll down the passenger side window to ask me if the car was for sale. I told him it wasn't but he persuaded me to pull in to this parking lot on the corner. That was the store I was going to anyway. He looked over the car, naturally telling me how nice it was. He offered $14000 right there. Sorry, not for sale I said. This ever happen to you?

Ive had guys ask me if mine is for sale while I would drive it or have it parked somewhere numerous times. I just cant part with it

I ususally dismiss it as lipservice...They want to sound like big money collectors "in the know". I try to be polite and thank them for the interest.

I am in the process of contacting previous owners of my car to learn more about its history.  I got the guy on the phone that sold it to the fella I bought it from and the first words out of his mouth were "do you want to sell it".  I had said no and he then went on to tell me some stories about the good times he had with the car back in the mid '90's.

I had told him I had a some photos of the restoration and he had said he would like to see them.  He will send me some photos of it when he owned it.

I am guessing that once it gets on the road, others will be asking the same questions as situations such as mentioned above are common for folks that own old cars.

Perhaps there is a web forum with a bunch of old folks that own rusty old cars sitting in their driveways get together chat and share stories about how some person knocked on their door asking if they would sell their car.

I actually had a guy hand me a $35,000 check for my '71 Super Bee...  I politely handed it back to him and said "no thanks".  Other than that, I've had several people ask about both cars, but I love 'em too much (besides, my wife would KILL me if I ever sold the Bee).

I used to have a guy follow me to numerous Mopar shows. He would track me down several times a day with offers to buy my '70 R/T. This guy was h-u-g-e, very intimidating. He always had money on him. Last time was probably 5yrs or so, he was wearing a belt-pack and said he'd give me $50 grand for the car right there on the spot. I still said no. Glad I did, I'm now getting offers for 2x that.

My wife sometimes watches the car at shows while I'm out in the swaps. She had a guy pester her for almost 1/2hr about the car: How much? (not for sale), If he were to sell it, how much? (not for sale), C'mon everything has a price! (not for sale), Can you call & ask him? (not for sale). Finally, she just said "$1 million!" to shut him up. He called her crazy & walked away. Some people just don't get the hint.

Whenever I'm asked about selling mine, first I tell 'em it's not for sale and if they persist, then I give 'em a high number. I automatically dismiss it as just talk anyway.

i had 2 people offer to buy mine the day i bought it while i was parked at rest stops comming back from canada.   You never know who is serious and who isnt....I recently sold my 65 Contemporary Cobra replicar that way....i was getting gas in it and some older guy drove up next to me claiming hes been wanting one for ever and a day...he asked how much to sell. I told him 52K he asked for my number, gave him my buisness card and 4 hours later he was at my house with cash....so YOU NEVER KNOW!!

When the car sat in the backyard we had all kinds come and ask if she was for sale. My husband always sends me out to deal with these people. One guy would come every spring & fall for 4yrs...and I kept telling him NO WAY!  The last time he came over he said he wanted to speak to my husband...he was gonna bring cash...I laughed at him and told him he was wasting his time...I WON'T SELL HER...I would devorce my husband and take the car and the kids if I had to...LOL
He hasn't been back since. Guess he thought I was serious...hahaha

Now that she's restored it seems like every time we go for a cruise someone's asking if she's for sale. We usually just chuckle and say no. If they persist I tell them an outrageous number (quarter million usually does it...lol) and leave us alone. 99% of the people that ask aren't serious anyways so why should we when we give them a price
We couldn't sell ours...it's almost 21 yrs. since we first got her...there's no price for owning a 69 Charger for that long.

Allways happens to me, every day at least 3 or 4 times, but they just ask DON'T YOU SELL IT? What year is it ? does it have the original engine ?... not too many guys offer money directly... one guy offered $20K once. Another one driving a Volvo ( not a common car down here ) asked me DON'T YOU SELL ? I asked him, NO BUT IF I DO HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK WORTHS... he answered me AT LEAST $10K, I told him, AT LEATS YOU ARE ON THE WAY, BUT I THINK STILL NOT TO CLOSE. That was before paint and stripe.

Funny was once a guy driving a Convertible corvette I think 98 or so asked me if I sell and also told him NO... shame he didn't offered money and the HOT GIRL HE HAD AS PASSENGER LOL... that was also before the late paint job and stripe.

Another guy asked me about sell it an got same answer... he asked me NOT EVEN ON 100 MILLONS Bs ( local money, that is around US$40-45K )... I asked him... do you have that kind of money... He laughed. If you are so stupid to offer that kind of money for my car, then you have no idea what car is or simply just throw an offer to play with me.

Now with A/C working mostly of times then there is less ppl asking me becsue my windows are rolled up, but yes keeps watching my cars and rolling down windows to detail it better ( I have been surprised about also Mrs and Ms ). Sometimes ppl make hand signals somehow to try to ask if I sell... of course they get same answer.


BTW Paul, you have an extremely nice one, practically a survivor, so if you try to sell or think on that, don't think on less than $25-28K

If some one offered me 14,000 cash for my car, I would sell it right there I'd just turn around and buy another 2nd gen Charger again or a Rallye 3rd gen.

pretty much what I do. I'll have someone ask if my road runner is for sale,I say no. They ask "what would you take for it?" I'll say $10,000. Primer, half finished interior, but on the road. They say  "you'll never get that", I say "I said I didn't want to sell it. Everytime some one asks, I increase the amount. IOF someone would ever flash some serious cash, it would have to be enough for me to buy another 2nd gen or road runner THAT DOESN"T NEED A THING. Probably won't happen, but maybe there's someone foolishish enough.......

I said when I got the car, if someone offered me $20,000 for it, I would sell it.  Well, last year I was offered 20K cash on the spot for The Colonel, and I said no.  I have grown too attached to it.  I don't know what I'd do if I was offered 30K or more.

The mauve '66 318 Charger I had got the most interest out of any of the Chargers as far as offers to buy it. Guys at gas stations, on the street, following me into parking lots. With the nice painted 440 Chargers ('66 and '68 R/T) people think they are cool cars but it is the mauve small block car people really wanted to buy.

When my '69 was on the road (in primer & glasspacks), I was constantly getting offers to buy it for like $1500.

(And then when you turn down one of those stupid low-ball offers, the guy usually gets annoyed at you.)
