I guess they figured out a different platform for their stunt cars. I was under the impression that was the reason for using the Ford chassis

Judging by the blocked off window channels on the vent frames, I would say that it doesn't have any side windows.

Vic's seats don't allow rear seating. Remarkable job overall though.

The Smith Brothers did the first conversion to use for smaller jumps and stunt shows at Dukes and the idea has spread.

I think if I wanted a window-less stunt car for personal use I'd go pickup a cheap b-body Coronet/Satellite shell and just swap the outer body panels. That would probably ruffle more feathers though...

I never knew they were car guys. You learn something new every day.

If somebody really pays over $30k for that car then we're gonna see more of them for sale in a few months.

JB400

Lovely.  We went from having to worry about rebodied Hemi cars to rebodied cars imitating Chargers.

I seem to remember that many of the General Lee Chargers, especially the jump cars were Charger bodies on Crown Vic chassis. Easier to repair than the unibody.

Uhhh...The TV show ran from 78-85. There was no reason to do this sort of thing when the real Chargers were easy to find.

WMopar71

Actually there was, unless you think all the stunts needed only one take.

Kern Dog

Sure, they should have done it YOUR way.....Take a $500-$1500 car (Charger) and instead of using that, find a non existent Grand Marquis and Unicorn AMD body panels that haven't even been invented until 2007.....

The re-body theory has been around Dukes 'circles' for a while but is 100% false. Like it or not these cars were junk late model cars in the 80's and not a second thought was given about destroying them.

Fast forward to today and while there is still a demand for stunt shows, it's no longer viable or acceptable to jump real Chargers. The crown vic rebody was conceived as a way to keep the spirit of the show alive through live stunts without the cost or backlash around using real Chargers.

Smith Brothers Restorations built the first conversion in 2017 and there have been numerous copies since: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nk-ypusAmPk

This one on Ebay is the first one I've seen built and sold to be semi-streetable. I don't think any one in their right mind would mistake it for a real Charger so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Yeah, I'm fine with people building Crown Vic conversions.  It's a cheap used Ford + a pile of catalog repro stuff.  You could build one without using a single 50yo Charger part.
