As you have a lynch road car, your fender tag is pretty much worthless, they didn't list most options and put the odd numbers on the top of the tag. Anyways here is what the top numbers mean.

30              Gate Sequence Number
   138         Base Sequence Number
267740       Line Sequence Number

513            Engine: 1974 B-Body - 318ci 1-2bbl V8 Automatic Transmission, Heater, 150hp, Blue
317            Axle: I don't have the numbers for this one, but anyone with a 74 part numbers book should be able to tell you what it is as it are the last 3 digits of the part number.
     862       Transmission: 1974 B/C-Body - 318ci 1-2bbl/360 1-2bbl V8, A727 Automatic Transmission

No one is more helpful and knowledgable than Nacho ( I spelled it correctly this time ) when it comes to the 3rd Gens.
That doesn't say much for us people here in the states that get to see these cars on a more regular basis.

Nacho is so cool, I'd happily get him a airline ticket just so he could come to visit us :yesnod:

terrible one

Welcome to the board man. Looks like a very nice Charger for the price. I'm really digging the color man! Definitly one hell of a first car.

greenpigs

I would put some slots on it and a good dual exhaust then just drive it and have fun.

When you get old enough ;D

Wish my first car was like your Charger!

I talked to a guy by me that restores cars for a living and he gave me a lot of advice and websites for stuff, but by the time I got home I forget it all. He's more of a chevy guy though.

So my charger has the 727 tranny?

I know you decoded this, but...
I didn't know that any 318 2bbl came factory with the SB 727?
Are you sure? :icon_smile_big:

Yup ;D

Now that is unless Galen Govier is wrong in his white books. Which could very well be true, but I find that a lot of the info in there is correct. 862 does stand for a A727.

very nice CHARGER!

I rode in one just like that back when i was 17, on a cross country trip ina 24 foot U-HAUL,.. the year was 1974 and in the back seat of just such an all blue SE I got my first taste of HEART's Dream Boat Annie and Black Sabbath on the pedestal mounted 8-track. The song Ironman was made for such rides as these..
BTW: that Blue charger was jacked up in back with air shocks and had Keystone wheels on Kelly Charger Tires... AWSOME!

You got a rare steering wheel on that their beastie, kool Rims too,.. are those Cragers?..

... WELCOME Bordin34! You must be soooo stoked!

It should be already a compact cassete, not an 8 tracks. Not 8 tracks available on 3rd gens ;)

The wheel is a regular three spokes center padded wheel with somekind of cover added on wheel itself, regular equpipment on SEs. SEs with brougham package has a similar wheel with a chrome horn ring attached on pad.

BTW, thanks for your kind of words about me guys.

Congrats on your project. Looks like a solid start. Have fun with it !

One interesting thing: Car build date in July 9 74 with a very high sequence number. Probabaly getting pretty close to the last days 3rd gens were ever made. Anyone know when they stopped 3rd gen production?

Once you laminate your build sheet it's laminated forever. If the lamination yellows, your stuck with it. Better to tuck it in a clear sleeve and tape the top to keep the air out.

Thanks, there is only one kinda big rustspot that is inder the vinyl you can feel and see the bubbles
I never thought about laminating that way, I guess I wont do it then.

Hey great looking start for a project! After seeing the pictures of the body close up I think it was an even better deal. The rust under the vinyl is pretty common unfortunately. Good luck and keep those pictures coming.
