I have a manual steering box and I noticed that there is grease right between the coupler and the box itself, I assume there is a seal there? I wiped if off and will check back in a few days to see if it comes back but is this cause for alarm at all?

Move the coupler back and forth while watching to see if the shaft moves in and out any. Is it sloppy on center?

The coupler does not move in or out however I can turn the whole shaft by the coupler a bit back and fourth, it has always bee a bit sloppy but a handful of years ago i got the steering coupler rebuild kit.
Also the grease is back so it must be leaking.

No it's not moving in and out at all actually.
