Best place to buy gas tank seals?

I'm getting a major raw fuel smell when driving the car and I've checked and rechecked all the hard and soft lines and there are no apparent leaks so I've narrowed it down to the tank seals.

I need the filler to tank seal the filler to trunk seal and probably the sending unit to tank. Any recommendations as to where the best ones are?

Thanks!

Look closely at the tank level gasket lock ring.   If it's bent or distorted in any way it will probably never seal.

I can't see you getting a fuel smell from the tank WHILE DRIVING the car. Tailpipe blow back maybe. If the sender and filler areas aren't pissing fuel it's not that...

Do you have the little breather tube on your filler pipe if you have a second gen car ?

It's coming through from the trunk. Every time I stop and check it out there's no leakage anywhere. I pop the trunk and wham, full on fuel vapor smell

It's a 69

Seems like this may be the problem, I can see the vent thing on the top of the filler but no tube running back to the tank.

The service manual shows the assembly but not where the tube actually terminates.

Does it simply go through the seal and hang out down there or does it go back into the tank?

Thanks for the help

I'd be looking to see if the sender unit is seated and locked in properly before anything else. Fuel and vapours can escape if it isn't and you would most likely smell it from the trunk area.
Gotta love a '69

That little tube is the only way the tank vents so that would explain the gas smell in the trunk
It mounts at the very top of the fill tube and has a rubber joiner that the long thin metal pipe connects into then that follows the fat fill pipe down to the floor of the trunk
When it gets to the floor it has its very own hole through the trunk floor that ends up inside the frame rail to vent outside the car  :2thumbs:

Roger that and thanks, it would seem that I am missing the entire thing, looks like I'll be fabbing up a  vent tube.... Unless it's reproduced?

Post in "Wanted" for one if factory correct is important to you. Otherwise just get some brake line. Is there a hole above the frame line with a rubber plug in it?  :scratchchin:

Factory correct don't mean shit on this car LOL!
I have some brake line so I'll just fab it up.
No hole or plug as I replaced the trunk floor with a shitty two piece one back in 2011. Hopefully there's at least the dimple where it should be so I can properly locate the area where the tube goes through

Van's has them on eBay, 20.00 shipped.

Be aware that the tank vent tube vents INSIDE the rear frame rail so seeing a leak is really hard.  Try running with half a tank for a while and see if the smell is reduced. :shruggy:

I usually only put in 5 g's as the car rarely gets driven and I don't want a bunch of bad fuel in there
Thanks for the advice

3 pictures

picture 1 shows an old filler neck I have laying around and you can see there are two clamps fastened to the big tube that the small one hooks into

picture 2 shows near the top of filler neck in my car

picture 3 shows where the small pipe goes through the trunk floor

I also replaced my trunk floor with a new two piece floor
Looking at your pictures you only have one small hole in your floor
My pans also had only one small hole and I had to make a second hole for the breather pipe
The breather pipe hole is a little smaller than the plug hole
You could just route your pipe through your plug hole if you are going to make your own
If you buy a factory type small pipe I do not think it will reach and you would have to make another hole just for it

Thanks for the pics, I just fabbed up a tube using a section of steel fuel line and a piece of rubber fuel line. No holes or dimple in the floor so I just ran it down next to the filler and used some good ol butyl roll flashing to seal it up temporarily.

I'll post up after a cruise this weekend and let you know the result  :2thumbs:

Too hot here in the PNW to take the car out this weekend, it's been over 100 for a couple days now and without AC it would be cookin in there. Will post up when i do with the results.

My daughter just recently moved to Anacortes, partially to escape the SF bay area heat.  Not so much recently.

Finally had a chance to take the car for a spin around town today and I'm pleased to report no more fuel smell inside.
Thanks for the advice on the vapor hose  :2thumbs:
