The mechanic, I normally go to for things I can't do myself,  had a question for me.  He has a customer with a 70 duster  that had a slant six and a 904 trans.  The owner swaped in a 318 and then promptly blew up the trans.  The mechanic rebuilt the trans and owner blew it up again.  I asked how he "blew it up" and he said it ruined the Tc.  Mechanic said he used a Lokar setup for the kickdown.  Still sounds like a kickdown to me.  You folks have any advice?

The Lokar has to be set up using a 1 to 1 ratio between the carb throttle attachment and the kickdown lever. The kick down lever needs to be, I believe, a 2" long one (pivot to attachment hole). I have one on the Dart. It has to be TIGHT to get FULL kickdown lever actuation with WOThrottle. When I first had it set up it wouldn't kickdown from 3rd to 2nd, so I tightened it and tightened it until it did what it's supposed to.. kick it down into 2nd. If your kick down isn't engaging properly then yes you cook the trans stuck in third...

I asked how he "blew it up" and he said it ruined the TQ.

TQ= Thermoquad

TC= Torque Converter

I can't see a scenario where the TP linkage or cable would cause a TC to fail.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

TQ= Thermoquad (fixed)

TC= Torque Converter
