Does the chrome trim overlap the side carpet for the center console, or does the carpet butt up against it? With the trim in place, the clips leave lots of slop, with might be taken up by the carpet. If the carpet does go beneath the trim, is it slotted at the clips, or should there be holes for the clips to go through?

Go under the trim. If you try and butt it there will be lots of "fuzzys" that you'll see

I took another look at the shop manual and it shows the carpet is slotted.  :rotz:

correct, that's to go around the trim clips as trip clips OVER carpet
