Kentucky Derby and Winged Cars

A week ago today we lost "Chargin Charlie" Glotzbach, the legendary Nascar racer from Edwardsville, IN who lived in Jeffersonville, IN in recent years. For those of you that don't know your geography, this part of southern Indiana is part of metropolitan Louisville, Kentucky.

One week per year Louisville is consumed by the Kentucky Derby, and the Kentucky Derby is Saturday May 1. Living in metro Louisville myself, this week is so big most businesses (other than bars and restaurants) are closed, including mine, and we all have Derby gatherings and parties and discuss 1 horsepower instead of hundreds.

What a coincidence that this year, 10 days after Chargin Charlie's death, there is a racehorse on the Derby called Hot Rod Charlie! It's almost a sign isn't it?

As you know the facility where the Kentucky Derby is held is Churchill Downs.
They hold other events there during the year.
For a while They were the host of the "Louisville Concours D'Elegance".
They rotated the classes for the cars shown to not get repetitive.
In 2010 they had a Winged Warrior class!
