Light Bulb Questions - 69 Charger

I am a little confused looking at the light bulb chart in the service manual. Maybe someone can assist.

1st Question: The manual lists one bulb (89) for the courtesy lamp and one bulb (90) for the "door, pocket panel and/or reading light." Can someone explain the differences? I always assumed the "courtesy lamps" were the two on either side of the center console.

2nd Question: The manual lists two bulbs (1816) for the "Fender Mounted Turn Signal Indicator" which are actually the two on the hood. I understand that part but it also shows two bulbs (1095) as "Tail Lamp Only" What are these bulbs?

The 1095 go inboard next to trunk lock.

The 1095 bulb is the third "inners" bulb on 69/70s tail lights for parking lights... that bulb is latelly hard to find but there are couple of threads around talking about optional replacements for those with correct/closest wattage.

and prevent from this using incorrect wattage bulbs:

90 lamp... map light underneath the dash pad, at a side of the heater/AC controls... when optioned

Thanks for the explanation on the tail lights! The map light is a 90 but that is listed on the next page of the manual so I have that one already (I do have that option in my car). I am just trying to figure out what the courtesy light (not lightS, plural) is. I had thought there were two of those and they were on either side of the console? Is this just a typo in the manual and if so, what is the door/reading light?

just a warning, do not use the 1004 bulb in the console courtesy lights, they will burn your white lenses

1004 is JUST for dome light or any other location where the switching source is ground and bulb base needs to be isolated from the contact points

read my post above, I specifically said the console lights.....

Nacho-RT74

Sure.. I read it! Just being specific on this ;)

1004 bulb is dual contact with filament isolated from base. So is not just about the size of the glove or intensity able to melt the lense ( 21 watts or so ), but as far I can tell will be anyway the incorrect application for the console courtesy light. I meant this because it says 89 bulb is the one for the console courtesy lights which single contact, not because I have personally dealt with it!

1003 would be the similar to 1004 specs ( glove size and power ) except being single contact and grounded socket/base like the 89 and that would fit "correctly" into the console light sockets, but of course will melt the lense.

Can't tell why on this. None of the models listed on the pic got any "door/pocket panel/reading light" feature. Just the console courtesy light on console ( but no A bodies ) and map light down the dash pad ( down the dash frame on A bodies )

A383Wing

the 1004 bulb is too long for the console lights...it is almost touching the white lens....that is why you see so many console side lights with a brown burnt spot in the middle

twenty mike mike

The bulb chart is wrong.

The courtesy lamps are the lights in the console, as you surmised. A #89 bulb won't work, since it has a single contact. As Bryan recommended in another post, use 90s instead of 1004s.

Nacho-RT74

Oh, ok! Then the console lights are double contact isolated from chassis! That's why A383Wing was talking about the 1004s LOL
