Who sells the correct hood insulation pad for a 70 Charger R/T? Is this correct or is it backwards?

That's just a mess...

REM makes a correctish moulded one. What I have on my SuperBird, but note that they only came on a car if you're J55 coded for undercoating. The material is so brittle and fiberish that they're using that I sprayed it with Tremclad clear just to mat the fibers together somewhat to keep it from falling apart.

Note that the pad comes with shit plastic retainers so you'll need to find some OE clips or repros from this guy...

I know it's a mess and that's why I'm asking. I thought they were not molded. I bought this pad about 30 yrs ago from Yearone.

Fairly certain they were moulded and DMT and Dantes both seem to concure..

QuoteMopar used molded hood insulation pads on most models when an upgrade package was ordered. The pad was approx 1/2" thick then molded around the under hood structure. 62-65 cars used a wide, rectangular, metal clip to hold the insulation to the underside of the hood. 67-71 cars used narrow, rectangular, metal clips. 72 and up cars used narrow, curved, black plastic clips.

QuoteMopar Hood Pads for Insulation-Molded. Molded to the shape of the hood like original.

Not sure how DMT ships them rolled, must be softer than the one I got from REM as it had to ship in a flat box.

The only semi correct pads close to the OEM style is the ones from either REM or Repops.  REM is wholesale only, but has a larger number of vendors selling the product line.  You can buy direct from Repops, but I feel that the REM pad is of a better quality.   As Wayne points out, they are very fragile and it does not take much to break or crush the fibers around the mounting holes.  It does not help in that the reproduction mounting clips are not of the same quality of the original clips.

All of the hood insulation pads that you can purchase that are either folded up or rolled up is basically a die cut piece of fiberglass insulation.  Depending upon the vendor, some are black and some are yellow in color resembling the insulation found on a hot water heater.

Also be aware that for the B-Body applications, 66 to 67 is one style, 68 to 69 is the same, 70 is a one year only deal and 71 to 74 covers the other years.

Shipping is another hassle as due to the size and how fragile they are, the cost of the shipping can approach the cost of the actual mat.  That is why we sell most of them at the shows that we attend.

Mine is a repop and I've been very happy with their products, forget pricve but detroit muscle has proper clips paid $27.50 for 'em

I don't need the clips. I have the metal clips and have extra. Like I said, I bought this one from Yearone about 30 years ago and I need another one.
