Torque Converter Recommendation

The transmission in my car is quickly losing 3rd gear and reverse so it will be coming out for a rebuild shortly. Since the trans will be out I'd like to look into better torque converter options than the stock unit I'm running now. Engine specs are as follows:

1971 440
Stock pistons, rods, crank etc.
Stock heads with Melling valve springs
Melling MTD2 'rv' cam
Exhaust duration @0.050: 214
Exhaust lift: .443in
Intake duration @0.050: 204
Intake lift: .421in
Edelbrock CH4B intake
Holley 750 vacuum secondary
1-3/4" primary headers

Rear gear is currently a 2.76 but will be switched to a 3.23, likely around the same time as the trans rebuild. The car is a cruiser but I won't rule out a trip or two down the strip. For a relatively stock/low compression engine, and mild rear gear is there a better-than-stock torque converter choice or should I just stick with the stock unit?

There are several stock converters used. Would need to know exactly what you have. But in general being essentially stock with no gear, i would stick with an 11" relatively tight converter. B&m torkmasters are an economical price and on that build and gear will probably flash right at 2500 but cruise stock.

if is able to find them. They are not available anymore since looooong time ago. I have one 166K which I was using on my stock 400 and one 175K on my actual 451 stroker. Both were found rebuilt by MP,  not new. That was maybe 10 years ago and it was already hard to find by those days
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

Nothing against cope, but if you are getting a converter built, call ed at select converters.

Thanks for all of the replies, I'll double check the converter I have and see if I can identify it somehow, OD/part number etc. The B&M converters seem to be in-line with my application, I really don't need a $1k custom unit to go drag racing with but if the B&M unit would get me a little more performance on the street it's worth considering.
