Some of the stroker kits use a non standard rod . How does this effect the engine?


Longer: heavier, maybe less piston side force?

Smaller journal size:  higher load on the bearing ,but slower bearing speed ?

smaller wrist pin: 990 pin might be lighter and need less room in the piston ?

Floating vs pressed pin: what is the advantage to floating?

Now we are getting into understanding Engine Dynamics.

Stroker Kit Rods are typically longer to maintain as good a "Rod Ratio" as possible, Rod Ratio being the Rod Length divided by Stroke.... higher being better for Piston longer/dwell time @ TDC on Valve/Cam Overlap/Cylinder Scavenging with slower acceleration away from TDC.... although MAX Piston/Ring Speed in the Cylinder is still determined by the Stroke.
As Rod Ratios drop with Strokers... even though longer Rods are supplied in Strokers Kits Ratios still drop.... "angularity" or Cylinder Wall loading is also increased on what are typically also shorter Piston Skirts because of the longer Rods/longer Stroke in Stroker Kirts.
One could explore the many facets of Rod Ratio's effects on Engine Dynamics here to no end ? and Cylinder Heads are an especially long winded topic therein....
but long story short as there is no time here.... is that most Ratios approaching down in the 1.6 to 1.7 range are acceptable for BB Mopars.

Smaller 2.200 Bearings are adequate
Smaller .990" Pins are adequate
Floating offers more wear surface(in theory).... although without proper Pin "fitting" applied to most ALL Stroker Kits I've ever seen..... Little in gained for most Buyers as they just slap things together or have their machinist guy who has no clue... let be the correct slotted mandrels for Pin Fitting.... he just "checks"(LOL) and then states "all good" so they go away.
