I have a chance to buy a Lakewood scatter shield

All that is there is the bell and the flat base plate and some bolts

I looked up some retail sales pictures and there are a couple rings in their pictures
What are they for ?
Centering rings ?

If so are they needed or can they be bought separate ?

The only thing a ring would be for is to adapt a smaller front bearing retainer trans to the large bearing retainer hole in the scatter shield.

You'll need a mess of bolts/nuts for the bottom edge housing to block plate. I used some of my aircraft bolt collection on mine..

So does an A833 4 speed need the ring ?

Depends what year the trans is from.... I believe 70 on is the smaller bearing retainer, but I've been wrong  before.

Lakewood Scattershields are $750 new these days...      (Crazy price) - Used I see them go for around $350-$400 on average.

As BirdsandBees said - the centering rings you may need depends on the bearing retainer size of your transmission. If you need the ring you can more than likely contact Holley (Lakewood) and see if they will sell you the set that normally comes with the Scattershield or you can go to your local machinist and they could spin one out on a lathe in about 15-20 minutes

I am in Canada so the local Mopar place is selling them for $1300  :brickwall:

Why I have not bought a new one

I have come across an ad for one not too far from me
He started out at $550 and is now down to $475 ( Canadian money )

But all he has is the bell and the flat plate

The 833 came with three bearing retainer diameters, 4.16", 4.805" and 5.125". Most scatter bells come with a 4.805" and a reducer ring to fit the 4.16" retainer. The later OD 833's came with the 5.125" retainer; don't know if any aftermarket scatter bells have that hole.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
