Battery group

69 Charger 383 4 speed AC car.
What is the correct battery group to use in this car? Not worried about original looking, but what fits the tray correctly.

Both the Group 24 and Group 27 were available, with A/C I would expect to see a 27.

There's two different size battery trays.

all '69 Chargers had the same battery tray

that being said a 383 car had a group 24 battery as STANDARD equipment (a group 27 battery was a rare OPTION and most are found in cars originating in cold weather states or north of the border)

440HP & HEMI cars received the group 27 battery as it was STANDARD on a R/T

FYI - the A12 440+6 Super Bees & Road Runners had group 24 batteries STANDARD

of the ~65,000 US spec. V8 1969 Chargers (XP29): ~2,400 (~3.7%) were OPTIONED with the $8.40 group 27 battery "F25"

Well the group 27 battery fit the tray perfect.
Never found a build sheet for my car. Assume it was an option.

My 69 Charger came with the larger tray for a 27 group battery. My 68 Charger came with the smaller tray that would only fit a 24 group battery. I don't think anybody replaced the 68's. Both were rusted from the acid.

So special needs person what else came on my 68 since you know so much about my cars?

1968 parts book shows only one battery tray for B-bodies...same one used on the Imperials.

Looking at the battery tray from that part number mine looks different. Who knows my 69 could have a dealer installed tray. hence measure your tray.

My two cents worth here.....both my 66 Chargers have the group 27 larger battery tray, and my 70 Charger also has the larger tray as well
