might  be a  dumb  question  fellas , but  my  torqueflite   at  times  I cannot  get  the   lever  to shift   into   first  or  second   gear   manually .  and  at  times  like nothing  moves  freely  which  I cannot  figuire out

I had a similar issue recently and it turned out the plastic button on the shift knob was incorrectly adjusted/installed and was basically pushing the lock plate TOO far down so that it was jamming on the shifter guide plate, if that makes sense. If you can, pull the console top plate and watch the lock plate as you move it through the gears to see if it's jamming. Adjustment is as simple as loosening the set screw on the shift knob and threading it on/off it to adjust the button throw.
