Second Gen Charger front seat shoulder belts

Just wondering how many use the factory front seat shoulder belts in a second gen Charger
At this point I seem to only have a shoulder belt set up installed on the passenger side and nothing on the driver side other than lap belt
Have never tried to sit in passenger side and use the shoulder belt set up
Looks like a pain to use and always hanging in the way so have not got around to putting it in the driver side yet

Careful now a days if it has shoulder belts you also have to use them.   If the bolt holes are in the roof liner then ya mite want to find  a set for the drivers side.

For a guy that likes to corner, seat belts and good, supportive seats are a must!

What seat belt are you using ?
Seems to be like a modern belt with the shoulder and lap all in one

Those in the picture were from Snayk Oyl. I replaced them with a better set from XV Motorsports. The new ones have a drop down "Dogbone" that places the belt on the shoulder rather than against the neck.

I had a completely stock 68 and the shoulder belts drove me crazy. Ended up not using them.

Sooo, did a bit of modification on my 69. The 3 point retractable that are available I'm sure work fine with stock seats but didn't like the look with windows down/hardtop.

Wesco makes belts, they have the 3 point VAN type for our Chargers, That is what I have

Well it seems to look like about 1/2 use the shoulder belt of some kind in the front seat

I broke down today and installed the factory driver side shoulder belt 
I sat in the front seat and tried it out for the first time
Kind of a pain to use
Will see how it goes by the end of this driving season
My car needs a new head liner and will decide then if I re install them or let the mounts just stay hidden

Shoulder belt isn't so bad.

For cornering, you are right, you have to grip the seat with your sphincter, but there also are advantages to having a bench seat.

I'm guess we are now too old to factor in the advantages, but it was fun when younger.

I guess that as much as I like having a woman close by, when in the car, I'd rather be in place and in control of the car.
The bench looks so strange in a Charger! My XH has one too though.

Shoulder belts weren't federally mandated until January 1968 so they were optional in early 68 models. Having said that, I don't know that I've ever used the factory shoulder belts in any of my 68s (that actually had them) but have used XV 3 point belts.

  Years ago a show, (Possibly 60 minutes) covered a study that exposed a flaw in shoulder belts. For cars like ours with no post in the body where the door closes, the roof can collapse in a manner making the belt harmful.

Was that report done by the same hacks that tied small rockets to the bumpers of car that were rammed into the 73-87 GM trucks? The trucks had overfilled gas tanks and the gas caps on by a 1/4 of a turn?
Spectacular fires happen when you stage the whole thing to meet your narrative!

I've no idea what you are talking about and did it involve seat belts? (You tend to go off on random unrelated tangents.) The show involved lots of actual wrecked car pictures, pretty grim stuff.

I don't know if Bill Hickman had shoulder belts in his 68.
All I saw him buckle was his lap belt!!!!
But then, launching into a gas island wouldn't have helped much anyway

I just shake my head.  The mainstream media doesn't falsify as much as you suggest.  We all have the ability to check and verify what we read and that is good practice.

I agree that the source is important, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were an issue with our cars with the shoulder belts. 

But I also imagine that the shoulder belt might keep me from slamming into (and damaging) my steering wheel.

I just know that I was EXTREMELY lucky to survive my wreck in my 1969 Charger. I didn't use the shoulder belt because it was a hassle/uncomfortable but if I had been hit ANYWHERE other then the spot I was hit, I would not be here today. With that fortunate set of circumstances in mind, I will always wear a shoulder belt. If the car doesn't have one, I will install one.

I have been wearing the factory shoulder belt in my car now
It takes one more step to drive away after you get it in the car but I guess it is just part of the package of driving this old car
