73 charger with door open shows short

Have changed bulkhead connector, ignition and turn signal switches and all engine electrical components.  When driver door is open test lamp illuminates between negative battery terminal and negative cable and all ground sources illuminate.  with door closed entire vehicle loses ground.  Where does the door switch wiring go to..........manuals are unclear.   Could there be a short at the bulkhead?    thanks for any help

The door switch just grounds the wire so the interior light will come on
Do you have interior lights come on when you just open the other front door ?

When you open the door the door switch should ground the circuit for the dome light to come on
When this happens you should see your test light come on if you have it between the ground cable and the negative battery post

Yes I do with battery negative attached, however test light shows no grounds as lit when I probe around
