1968Fever

In the last five years it seems like 258 of the original 259 383-4 four speeds have been for sale.  I can't believe how often they come up.  Are they really worth $69K?

No kidding.  One came up for sale by me, asking $35,000, but someone told him that 259 number.  Next thing I know, I see it on eBay with a starting bid of $80,000.  Ended with zero bids, and I never saw it for sale again, so who knows what happened.

Someone on this site has said they made more, in the range of a couple thousand, and the 259 is incorrect. That would make sense, and fall into line with the 1969 383 4 sp numbers.

I didnt think any Mopar's survived the rust belt in Wisconsin.  We never saw unibody cars except when my dad was filling the doors in with newspaper before he bondo'd them up because all cars were solid rust from the mid door down.

I too have always wondered about those numbers. I had a "Numbers" 68 383hp 4 SPD project car in my early 20's. Had no idea at the time how rare they were, or that it'd take me nearly 20 years to get another viable 2nd gen.

no such thing as a 383HP Charger in 1968

Oh Man You're Right!  School me on this if I'm wrong but even though the fender tag  may have decoded "high performance 383". That just meant 4 barrel and in 1968 the block would not have received an "HP" stamp?  Love this site guys KNOW all this stuff.

6bblgt

"H"-code or 62 properly decodes as: 383 w/4bbl carburetor (there were many variations for A,B & C-bodies)

the only 383HP b-bodies in 1968 are Road Runners & Super Bees without A/C

........ but look NO pie tin  :2thumbs:  as it was when new & should be

:cheers:Right on thanks, sometimes I'm not sure to blame my memory or accuracy of the "info" guys were giving me back then. I've gotta a pretty clear conscience so it's gotta be my memory!
