So, after nearly 1000 hours of wrenching (not including body and paint) I finally got my -68 restomod road legal.
Went through DMV with flying colors and weighing in at 3700lbs with half a tank of gas feels ok for a complete car with extra soundproofing.
To celebrate this occasion I took my wife for a mini vacation/roadtrip of 900 miles.
The 390bhp/DIN gen 3 hemi (a 2016 5,7) delivers plenty of punch and at the same time reaching 23mpg on the freeway thanks to my 6-speed Tremec and 3.23 gears.
It roars nice under load and offers a smooth ride while cruising at constant speed.
The car performs exactly as I had hoped. Of course there will be a ""to do" list during next winter, but for now it all about collecting as many smiles per miles as possible. :coolgleamA: :icon_smile_cool:

Nice car.
3700 lbs? That engine must have really saved weight. I'm right at 4000 lbs with an aluminum headed 440/493.

He mentioned a 6spd + sound deadening, too.

The weights of 2nd-gens are all over the place.  The numbers never cease to surprise me.

The weights of 2nd-gens are all over the place.  The numbers never cease to surprise me.

My engine is an 5,7 from a 2016 Challenger R/T and they weight about 500lbs in stock form with thin block (iron) casting, alu heads and plastic intake.
I also chose to go AC delete for now just to get the car up and running.

The Tremec 6-speed is from the same donor car and it weights 130lbs
So the complete package is 500+130=630lbs
Compared to a 440+833 witch is 670+160=830lbs.
So there is a 200lbs saving on engine and trans alone.
My car is also very low on options like no PS or PW and other goodies and that also impact the total weight.
I´ve added maybe 50lbs of dynomat to make the car feel a bit more "solid".

Funny thing is....if anyone said "Would you like a brown car?" ...any make/model...my answer would probably have been a very quick "No!".....but seeing yours changes that view completely!!
