73' Charger Rallye 340 vs 400 Production #'s?

So, I am having a debate with a Chevy guy.

He says a 73' Rallye Charger 340 Pistol Grip Charger is more rare and desirable than a 73' Rallye 400 highly optioned Charger, mine !

I want   him..yet I have to somewhat make my point. I would rather have a  BB Rallye with console and highly optioned A/C car than a 340 Pistol Grip Charger IMO.

If my Charger sucks that bad then F my life...I should just sell it and be on the quest for a 340 73' Rallye and mine is basically shit and I hate people.

EDIT: I for some reason thought your 400 was a 4spd. Probably because you were questioning its rarity to a 340 4 speed.

Available with any V8 being 318 the standard but the 340 was a Rallye by default. In other words he only way to get a 340 was on a Rallye, and that could make more special a 340 being no matter if 4 speeds or auto

I have same drivetrain setup on my car than yours... and I'm plenty happy. Nothing like open the hood and look at a Big block in stock look ( no chromes, no header, no nothing, pure stock look ). Sure also in Vzla the 318 is the Mopar belly button and is hard to find any kind of Big Block around and that helps out.

Auto or 4 speed? Once I drove a 70 R/T 4 speed and for whatever reason I didn't feel comfortably with it. Maybe because I'm really used to my 3rd gen cockpit WAY MORE COMFORTABLE than a 2nd gen aside it was not my car. A 3rd gen is so far superior on the driver/car combo feeling like the car and you are one solid piece. AND so far so good I'm happy being auto.


FYI I stroked my 400  ( basic stroke combo )

Think on this, still being a 400 Is still not a 318 or 400 2 bbl. and to be honored to the truth, a 340 will be more special even being auto, but just because the only way to get a 340 is getting a Rallye, not because a 340 is more desirable than a Big Block as a default. Just because production numbers.

On 71 you could get a SuperBee with 340 and In fact it was the only way to get a 340 being a Bee ( similar case than the Rallye ), but, would you preffer a 340 Bee or 383 Bee? Is just because the facts/numbers or the juice you can get from it?

I found the right spot on the broadcast sheet and yes our car was ( or is as we still have it around in several piles ) a Rallye A 57 code car

Our car is very rotten but still numbers matching but I never really had the erg to find enough parts to restore it as I never thought it was that special

J54 Sport Hood. I know at least one member had a J54 on his Lynch road tag and no A57. None of my non V21 Lynch Rallye cars have J54 so I don't really mention it often. Makes me wonder why some got a J54 on the tag and most didn't. I added J54 to my previous post.

Also, as far as I understand, for 73 the V6X or V6R side stripes would only be available on the Rallye. In 74, I think V6X was Rallye only, and V6K, V6Y, V6R were available on other models.

As an outsider, looking in:
I think the word "UNDESIRABLE" is polluting your thoughts.
Sure your car may be LESS DESIREABLE then a 68 HEMI CHARGER, but is your Charger less desirable then NO CHARGER???

I can relate, I can FEEL your pain, as I have a 1969 Charger that is triple Green.
TRIPPLE GREEN  is most likely, the LEAST desirable  color combo of them all.
But you know what it's mine!!!!

In my opinion, so what about your Charger having a 400?, unless you are super CONCERNED about owning a car that other people like or with having an all original #'s matching car?
Even if you want a #'s or original looking car, you can pull out the #'s 400, place it away safe, and drop in a 400 block stroked to 493/512 and eat most anything that dare line up next to you!!!!
You already have a big block car, so torsion bars, and K-frame, and transmission are all big block.

Don't let anyone $h!T on your car, cause at end of the day you are driving a big block Charger, and one of the LAST big block Chargers, as 74 is the last of the muscle car Chargers.

Just my thoughts, its your ride and you are  the one who needs to be happy with it.
Do I wish my 1969 Charger was a 4 speed Hemi R/T, hell yes, but so what, I am still rocking a Charger.
