I'm getting close to the final paint stages on the Charger restoration, and I need to tell my body guy where to paint the black behind the grille. Anyone have any pics of where the black paint goes? Thanks.

the factory just sprayed directly behind the grille in a rectangular pattern. nothing fancy.

On the assy line the paint was sprayed up from the bottom of the car very sloppilly.....overspray everywhere.

I chose to go the neater route by taping off the upper rad yoke bar....

Thanks Chris, that's just what I wanted to see. I wasn't sure if the top radiator yoke was painted or not, or how far out to the sides the black was painted. I also wasn't sure how far down the lower radiator support got painted, it looks like all the way down, which makes sense. I am not going to try to dupilcate the factory sloppiness either, I just want to make sure no body color can be seen through the grille, which of course is the whole point in the blackout in the first place. I printed your pic to show to my body man to use as a guide. Thanks again.

Coming back from the dead...

Did the inside of the lower front valance get painted black too?

Most I've seen - judging by the spray patterns, were painted from the top - downwards...not from a pit underneath....although E-Booger has been saying from the bottom forever....and won't change his mind - Lol.
I have never seen any blackout on the bottom of the rad yoke..just dip primer and some color overspray.

Jim, what about the inside surface of front valances?

I know there was overspray on some....on E-bodies for sure. I believe there is on my 69 Bee's. I'll have a look.
I don't have a 69 Charger to look at. Anyone out there have any pics of a good survivor?

Bronzedodge

I'll take a look at mine tomorrow.   There's Ziebart all over the back half of the front valance.   The aftermarket sure wasn't neat either.

I've had & seen a few that were blacked out on inside or backside. LEON.
