So my future project, rolling 69 arrived today.
There is a fair bit of original paint on the car, and I'm guessing the paint on the package tray, and the insides of the doors is the closest to when new.
Looking for some opinions on which 69 green this car was originally to confirm my own opinion!

This has remnants of a dark green interior, and also is a vinyl top car as the holes for the vinyl trim are there.
Anyone want to venture a guess as to what colour the vinyl top likely would have been on it?
Obviously the fender tag is long gone.

remove the stainless trim revel moulding  clips , the factory put the top on first then screwed the trim clips on , good chance there will/ should  be remains of the  original vinyl top behind the moulding clips

Unfortunately the vinyl top trim is long gone; she's a pretty solid roller but lots missing.
There is a metallic look to the original paint that was under the vinyl top on the A pillar.

If the car was green and the interior was green then I would think the top would be green also
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

That car is a 69 R/T SE, had a VIN on Dash but no Fender tag. When I bought it, it had been fairly freshly painted in F3, interior was all original and all the SE components were there. I bought it because he had swapped in a low milage 69 426 hemi with all original components. I wanted the 426 hemi for my 71 Challenger convertible project. I swapped the non-numbers 440 in the Challenger into the R/T SE and then hemi rebuilt and put into the Challenger convertible.

As happens in this hobby, I got help on the engine swap from my normal mechanic and he took 18 months to do it instead of 2 months as he promised. I had borrowed some money get the Challenger and R/T SE and it started to become an issue with my wife esp since the stock market crashed in 2008. This 69 was not nearly as nice as my 68 triple green grandma car so I did some more work to it and eventually sold it on Ebay and it went to Holland, where they  didnt care that it wasnt numbers matching.

The package tray and doors looks F3, but the other photo looks like F5, I say that because that looks just like mine,(F5 med green poly)
I found some of my OE vinyl top under the charger sail panel emblems, and in the window channel (front and rear,) as stated above under the clips.

Side note: my f5 car looks NOTHING like the color in the paint chart, at least to my eyes.

Bad B-rad

F5 is called med green metallic or med green poly, it has metallic in it, I do not know if F3 has metallic or not, as I don't have never owned an F3 car.

I was lucky enough to score a set of 1969 factory magnum 500 rims today off of a low mile survivor 69 coronet.
The rims are very restorable and have the trim rings, and are still wearing Goodyear polyglas bias ply tires that have tread left, and hold air nicely.
Anyways, when putting the rims onto the car I noticed on a rear drum factory green paint circles, spaces between the wheel studs.
My guess is this means this car wore painted steel rims with dog dish caps out of the factory?
We're steel rims painted mounted on the car?
I don't have a fender tag or build sheet so I'm doing some detective work to figure out how this car was out of the factory.

NO -
I'd bet at some earlier point in time the car had some pre-'67 10-hole wheels on it that were painted green while bolted on the car

got pics of the magnums / trim rings / tires ?

fireguyfire

Not great photos, but all I have right now.
Obviously the rims will need a full refresh in the future.

those are '70 & newer trim rings
the wheels will have a date on them - either the backside of the rear facing lip or by the valve stem
the tires will have DOT plant/date coding on them

fireguyfire

Here's the marking on the inside lip of the rims; all 4 are the same, as well as the polyglas mark.

Thanks for the info!
Great to know, and for $200 I think I did ok.
The rims will get a restoration in the future; the tires obviously will get replaced, but still cool to have a set of 73 polyglas tires.
Out of curiosity, what is the difference between 69 and 70 magnum 500 trim rings?

$200 I think you did extremely well  :2thumbs:

The 1969 Road Wheel Trim Rings are one year only and unique with the inner lip, which was removed in the '70 and up Trim Rings.

Story goes that the '69 "inner lipped" Trim Rings were alo unique in that they also only had 4 mounting spring lugs/tangs and used to fall off at high speed or hard driving/cornering.... thereby littering the ditchs of North America and making them very rare these 50 years on and hard to locate as they are not reproduced anywhere.
The '70 and up Road Wheel Trim Rings had no inner lips and more mounting lugs/tangs to correct the '69 version falling off problem.

I'm lucky in that my '69 R/T SE survivor still has all 4 of it's original inner lipped '69 Trim Rings in place, probably testament to it being babied most of it's life prior to me
Not a great picture, but you should be able to see the distinct inner lip on the Trim Ring.

Only wimps wear Bowties !

NICE looking R/T!!!!
I think Challenger340 is correct, one version takes trim ring with lip, other style with out lip.
I also think there is a version that the rim is chrome/finished and doesn't require the trim ring at all, although they maybe aftermarket version of them.

I also think the center caps are two different versions, one held on by bolts, the other snaps on.

Bad B-rad

Fireguyfire, you said no fender tag on your car, but are any of the seats still in car?
Maybe with luck you can find a build sheet?
I have found as many as 3 in one car.
May want to check rear seat, this seams to be where I have had best luck, tucked under the seat springs.
Taped on top of glove box.
In the seat back of front seats.
Under carpet.
I also have found parts of a build sheet in the headliner, not sure if it was put there by assymbly line worker, or if it was under seat/glove box and relocated to headliner by mice, as it was only fragments of a build sheet.(also the I have found are very beat)

I wish you good luck, with your detective work!!!!
With out photos, fender tag, or build sheet it may be very hard to get the answers to all your questions.
Looks like you off to good start!!!!

1967 & 1968 "ROAD" wheels are all CHROME
for '69 the wheel received a trim ring & became "chrome style ROAD wheels"

IMO the change to the trim ring design was a cost savings matter & the spring steel clip insert design was common on many late '60s trim rings across all of the "BIG-3" & AMC

they are difficult to find today and were quickly superseded by the new part at the parts depot (one year ONLY VS. the '70-'79+ style that was in production for 10+ years)
