Hi, guys.
This is first post with me,
nice to meet you from Japan!

I've just baught 70charger ,
which was my dream car since in highschool.
The VIN tells It's charger500 (XP29 Nmutching 383mug in it!)
but front and rear  badge were sideways arrow.

What difference comes from 500 and arrow badges in factory code
and which is correct for mine?
I like "500" badges so, planing to change it someday.

plese help me:)

Hello and welcome.

While I'm no expert on those kind of nuances, I believe it's because it was produced "early" in the 1970 model year.  I too have a 70 XP Charger, but no "500" emblems, rather the sideways arrows.

If you like the 500 emblems, I say swap them out, I doubt anyone will ever know they might not be "correct" but you.

And nice car by the way, I bet there aren't many of those running around in Japan.

Thanks.  Interesting observation.  I assume you have looked at the 1970 Charger registry as well.

Nice car.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

For 1970 "500" was a special trim package only, no filled in rear window, flush grill and performance package like 1969. Good luck with your project!  :2thumbs:

From the registry it looks like there was XH (like mine) with the arrow, XP which was the 500 and XS which was the RT.  Were there XP that were not 500?

I was thinking it'll come from extra cost in dealer ,
but "early" 1970model or not was never thought.
I'll keep researching about this question ;)

yes, I'll swap it someday.
I felt "500" makes XP charger's face
elegant look and it's own identity.

Thank you for reply ::)
Yes, I found XH=arrow XP=500 and XP=R/T
and it makes more misterious about my car's badge.

There is no accident damage in front grill nor fender,
so it's hard to think that replaced from junkyard parts back in the day.
there is possibility that "early 1970 XPcar" will have arrow badges?? and
I'm feeling this will be the correct answer.

Any way, it's fun to research about old mopar history ;)

Yes, there is huge difference between 1969"charger 500" and 1970's 500 isn't it ?
I thought that 1970's 500 grade is part of
premium model of 1970charger. (R/T=Hi perform sport , charger=standard)

Thank you! My project will costs tons of time and bucks,
but I'll study and grow my skills though this project :2thumbs:

Azami, does your car have a fender tag, and/or the factory sticker on the door?  Either or both of those should tell the car's production date.  My 70 XP Charger was from the first month of 70 Charger production in August of 69.

Here's a thread from the 70 Charger Registry (if you've not signed up over there yet, I recommend that you do, and send Dodge Don your cars info for his data base).

Here they start to discuss the XP 500 vs Arrow emblems, still no definitive answer, but it seems the common theme is early production.

You can also get a general idea of the build date from the SN.

Welcome azami-1725, Your '70 Charger looks good with just your one picture. Looks like a wash, dry and drive Charger. The Grill looks really good/clean and the Rallye wheels (with post 1970 center caps) look nice and clean. Find any Broadcast Sheet yet? Maybe behind the rear seat back? The front fenders and hood are not reproduced yet so do not run-in-to anything. I do not believe the grill and front bumper are reproduced yet either.

I have Arrows front and back, Oct. 15. 1969 (A15) build date. She is a XP, SE Model.
Oh and the underside of my trunk lid has a ''Jacking Instructions" for the Coronet Model. ::)

I wonder what your tail lights (the red part) looks like? Do you have the rectangle ''Reflector" in the center of the red lens (Jan. 1, 1970 and later build) or no "Reflector", (pre Jan. 1, 1970 build)?

Opps, do I see a cracked windshield or a giant spider web?

sorry for delay :'(
My fender tag told the car was assembled in 1969 Sept.
Reference from discussion and your charger's badge,
so it's getting clear that early production of 1970charger will have arrow badge !

I'm very happy to found tips for solving mystery,
and thank you very much for your cooperation

I will signed up quickly !

dual fours , sorry for delaying reply :'(

Yes, luckily my car's grill keeps nice shape.
Only has bit missing edge piece, but I'm just making missing fragment  from resin.
It'll become beautiful grill when I finish repaint ;)
Car was from Utah , and still in running condition .

Unfortunately, windshield's spider web is not spider web :eyes:
Has separated crack, so I need to replace it
and the roof was poor condition caused by vinaltop,
so I'm planing to replace roof panel in same time.

Has no Reflector tail , build in 1969 September.
Your car is near to my car's build month isn't it?
glad to hear having arrow badges ;)
Thank you!

This is the best windshield:  "Pilkington glass company" many others are not as thick as original.  Vans has the best gasket at the best price: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-68-69-70-Charger-GTX-Coronet-Windshield-Gasket-Seal-1968-1969-1970/362989306616?
