So if you were planing on a day trip that was about 200 miles one way what spare parts would you bring along ?
Standard tools flat screw driver , philips screw driver , vise grips , 1/2" 9/16" wrench ?
Stuff to change flat tire

What parts have any of you guys had to change on the road ?
What parts did you need and not bring along ?

And a can of gas just in case  ;D

I always carry my "get home pack:
- Spare ECU
- Volt regulator
- Ballast resistor
- Jumper wires (to hot wire batt to coil if I'm in trouble)
- Wires, connectors, hardware
- Multimeter, vice grip zip ties
- mini tool kit
- Triangle

To answer what have I had to do?
- Multi times bypassed ignition when car was dying and misfiring just to get it home
- Adjusted front brakes after they locked up
- tore into dash after it was dying (had cluster out, didn't tighten wires to amp Gage)
- Helped a broke down Duster guy at a show, his ECU died

Funny... when I said a couple months ago in another topic that I'm putting a 2018 hellcat drive train in my '68 so I don't have to bring any spare parts and tools with me on road trips, I was laughed at and told that old school drive trains are just as dependable and no spare parts and tools are needed. :2thumbs:

I bring the same thing as in my daily drivers. My wallet and cell phone.

A small fire extinguisher should be on the list.  Anything else taken along with will save you some time if problems occur but a fire extinguisher could save your car.
My first Charger was a Stock Car.

Yes Lennard you have a new drive train in your car but at the rate you are going ( I mean Chris is going  ;D ) it might just be an antique by the time you drive it

I'm still young and it will be on the road this year, and I'll be driving it trouble free until the day I die.

I have AAA like others probably do but to me that is a huge pain in the ass to have to wait and worry about them damaging my car.

If something simple fails that can be fixed roadside like a thrown belt or loose hose, I would rather give it a go first before calling them.

I went to Harbor Freight, bought a small bag, filled it with a bottle jack, collapsible lug wrench, assorted common wrenches, a few screwdrivers and pliers, threw in some other small things like a piece of fuel line and some zip ties.

I do have a small fire extinguisher tucked under my seat as well.

Even in my daily driver I have an even smaller tool set in the glovebox, you never know.

Just 6T9 CHGR

Along with the other suggestions.... a set of belts and a fuel pump pushrod...
I had a crap set of the reproduction belts that blew off on the way back from Carlisle one year.....changing those on the side of RT 78 sucked.....
Also swapped out a push rod on a friends car on the way back one year as well....

My car is turning 3200 at 65 mph.  Two hundred miles of that doesn't sound like much fun to me anymore.

AAA membership card :o

Don't think that would help me up here in Canada  :icon_smile_tongue:

Who insures your car? Wasn't even a choice with Hagerty, guaranteed flat bed tow is included in the premium. Only covers the first 12 KM or something stupid, but the main cost is the pick up and unload, mileage is minimal. You can even upgrade it to include your tow vehicle and trailer if you're hauling a lot.

I've had mine on 4 1000 mile round trips with nothing more than a basic set of tools, a spare ECU and ballast and a few other tidbits.
Reliability is of utmost importance.   :2thumbs:

Imo nothing
When i get in my charger I just carry same as in my daily
Phone and wallet

Altho have had the charger break down numerous times
Flooded carby. Screwd starter motor. And just recently. Screwd fuel pump. All events happened while i was out lol.
But also my daily played up the other day too.
But if I had a long trip planned in my charger maybe id bring extra gear. Never plan anything tho. Always just jump in and drive wherever I end up  :2thumbs:

Did not know about the tow option

Think my whole idea is just not to get stuck to need a tow  :yesnod:

A gallon of water/antifreeze, qt. of motor oil, ps fluid, brake fluid, tranny fluid, elec. tape, fuses, misc. connectors, elec. tester,  bal. resis., spark plug, belts, voltage reg., orange box, fusible link. A decent size fire extinguisher behind my drivers seat.
i have driven my old Mopars about 70k miles over the last 20+ years. Three breakdowns, all electrical. All were able to be fixed without calling for assistance.

I drove that car from Spokan, Washington to Ohio with just a tire iron and a spare tire.  Just go. You'll be fine! :)

One thing that has come in useful several times is a small section of fuel hose.  I kept it by the battery and used it to change plugs, but I found it helped on the road to place nuts in tight spaces and one time to patch a leaky fuel line.  Not a usual type of repair, but possible, and not a big deal to carry around.  I typically keep a small assortment and some spares like those already listed.  Have fun.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

200 miles! that's just a few hrs driving around, why would you need "spare parts"....

I don't take any parts or tools.

500" NA, Eddy head, pump gas, exhaust manifold with 2 1/2 exhaust with tailpipes
4150 lbs with driver, 3.23 gear, stock converter
11.68 @ 120.2 mph

i drove my 70 charger 440 6-pack from IL. to CA and back.with no tools. never even thought about it. 6 weeks later my wife made the same trip. in 1969 we made 3 trips from FLA. to IL in our 69 1/2 6-bbl Road Runner no tools.

Ghoste

I bring a small floor jack and two stands, spare gas can, a pretty complete set of wrenches and sockets.  With the 67 and the fold down seats I brought tons more stuff including spare parts, I dont bring so much with the 69 but its a more reliable car anyway.

Nacho-RT74

I have driven my Charger 1500 miles round trip without a problem ( and not just once ). Just once got the water pump belt broken in a interstate highway. You don't usually have a belt on trunk so had to call a tow anyway to the next city spare parts shop, bought, installed and the trip continued
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

Very true. If your old car is not reliable, FIX IT.

Well I finally got enough of my farm work done to make my trip today
I ended up talking the other guy to meet me half way so it turned out to be around 115 miles one way

So first things first I sorted out my jack and got it mounted in my trunk for the first time with a spare tire

Had to try it out first and every thing worked fine so this will be my only jack in the car

Now getting it in the trunk and that little spring from the hook to the handle took several tries to get everything going the right way to stay tight

Other stuff I took was a can of gas just in case
A jug of antifreeze in case I needed to top up the rad
Pair of vise grips
Flat screw driver
Test light
Chunk of electrical wire

Did not need any of it
Car ran great

Sitting on the 401 doing 75 to 80 the whole trip
Traffic was light  :2thumbs:

My car is 383 with just a 2 barrel carb
292 gears in the back
The car sucks in town stop light to stop light but it is awesome out on the open road
Thought it might get better gas mileage though
Took about 6 gallons to go 115 miles as I filled it up before I left to go and again before I headed back to return

It was kind of warm today so was a toss up of to take the car or should I ride in my air conditioned truck

It is a small world after all
Before the deal was done standing around talking cars he noticed mine was originally Q5
He said his friend was working on a Q5 Charger also
A couple more questions of where the friend got it from turned out he was working on a car that I once owned that had changed hands a couple times
