Firewall mystery hole question

My car is an early build and has this hole

Also it is just an open hole in my car as when I got my car a former owner pulled the plug out and ran a manual choke cable through that spot

So factory what kind of plug did they use to seal this hole up with ?
Was it a rubber type that has the big button on the inside ?
Was it just a flat plastic type plug ?
Is there any place else on the car that has a hole the same size that at the factory they would have just grabbed a spare plug to use ?

I also understand that this hole was more for a taxi cab set up with the remote vacuum trunk release
Does any one make a firewall hole plug for this ?

What has me thinking I have a factory style vacuum gauge that goes on the console I might install and if there is such a thing as a factory vacuum plug for this hole it might just do the job  ;D

If not no big deal I will just drill out a regular plug to run the hose through

There is a whole thread on the mystery plug hiding somewhere on this site. The part number has been posted. If memory serves, it is a standard floorpan plug.

My car is also an early build St. Louis car. There's one built before mine and one built after mine in the 69 registry that have the hole. My car does not have it.

I remember there was a thread on this but do not remember if there was anything about what plug to use or any pictures of a vacuum plug set up

Maybe at one time they were planning to put cruise control with a manual transmission? In 69, cruise control ran a vacuum hose and wires through the oval hole where the clutch pedal push rod goes through the firewall, so they needed another place to run the lines? in 70 a different cruise control servo was used, that didn't use the vacuum line to the brake pedal. so the extra hole wasn't needed. and of coarse an extra switch would be needed on the clutch pedal as well, so the engine wouldn't rev up when the clutch pedal was depressed. its just a guess!  ? or? maybe we will never find out?

That was intentional !
People that try to relay a sentiment with a variety of words could really improve their chances with a single picture. I know that this site isn't so good for posting pictures but if I can do it, others can as well.

Well I had a look through the thread Tan Top found
Thanks
It has lots of pictures of what the plug looks like
Seems to be just a plastic plug not a rubber plug
Now I can dig through my spare parts to see if I have one the right size  :2thumbs:

been thinking about this plug,  what about the plug on the bottom  of the inner door shell that covers the vent window adjusting bolt thingy, same size / similar ?
