Firecore silver spring advance curve?

Anybody have any issues with the two silver springs starting the advance later than chart? I'm not getting anything till 1500rpm. I realize it could be my tach but the other spring combos I've tried have matched the chart Exactly. Hate to order a spring kit because I've got one weird silver spring, but WILL to solve the problem Thanks

I'm using 2 different springs and used the gauge set for limit adjustment. (No issues.)

Cool thanks for chiming in. Ya I had no issues using one silver an one blue. Must be something funky about my other silver spring I just put in?? Feel like the king of bizarre issues lately. So CLOSE to having everything dialed in though.

Haha yeah thanks, gotta be stubborn as a mule I guess!  :brickwall:

New spring kit installed (2 light silver springs) an still no advance till 1500rpm. Are these springs gonna stretch soon after some driving an match the curve on the chart? While waiting for the spring kit I lightly stretched one of silver springs an had it advancing right at 1000. Problem solved (I thought) great low end throttle response etc. Till the next day when it popped off the post. Even though I was very careful an BARELY stretched it. I won't be "Manually" stretching one again. Just curious if anyone else has had this experience. Hoping after some miles they'll give a little an match the curve on the chart. Thanks

Okay awesome, I wondered if anyone had tried that. Thank You!

I only run 1 spring as well. Im at full advance nearly off idle. Only use the spring for starting purposes.

Cool Thanks for letting me know. I was thinking about trying that but hadn't heard of guys doing it till you an CDR chimed in. Man there is no comparison between 900-1000 & no advance till 1500! I'll be pulling it out an ditching a spring first thing in the morning. Thanks guys

Full advance at low rpm is not for everyone. Watch for ping.

I'll throw this out since those who know are commenting.

I assumed the mechanism is connected, so one or two springs or symmetry in springs didn't matter, I then looked at what the advance was and RPM and with that started testing for ping with the lightest combination and then working up until I didn't sense it.  My thinking is that this brings in the advance as soon as possible without detonation.

Is there some other way to approach this that is better.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Stringbender

That approach makes sense to me. I'm going to try one silver (lightest one) first, an check for ping. Comparing the factory curve to what I had, an what most seem to recommend for a street car (which mine is). The stock curve is way faster. With one light spring an the other one stretched to the point that it could easily pop out. It was advancing from 900-2300. Way closer to "stock" than what I had 1500-2950. With the quick curve the car Finally responded off idle the way I remember, the 383 cars I rode in as a kid. Headed to the garage now to pull the distributor AGAIN.... Haha

Yeah, I've been having some challenges getting my curve dialed in as well.  Firecore RTR.

I've had it for a few years and like it, but just have never been able to get the timing right.  User error.

I had the two blue springs in, and the mechanical was all in at 2200 RPM....way faster than the 2800 the chart said.  I have adjusted down my mechanical limit to bring in 20*.

Ended up using a green spring from another distributor that was a compromise between the firecore black and blue.  So, the green and blue ended up all in at about 2500-2600 RPM.  Good enough.

Got pretty good vac advance bringing in 10* at 2000 RPM.

So:
10* initial
20* mechanical all in at 2550 RPM
40-44* total with vac advance

Pretty conservative, but I've been fighting a ping for a while under hard throttle.  Probably lean condition, as my plugs are snow white.

It's frustrating that some spring combos don't match the curve charts. I thought I'd be "Golden" trying the single spring. As I was warned I had pinging issues. That to remedy were gonna seem to require ditching vacuum advance an retarding the timing, more than the car seed to enjoy. Put in 2 new silver springs, slightly stretched. It's starting it's advance at 1200, still not where I want it. At this point I'm taking a short "Break" from taking it apart an fooling with it. This stuff is just no Fun when you start getting pissed off about it.
